Easton escorted Lena downstairs, then walked away without looking back. No sooner had he turned the corner than Scales’s car pulled up at the curb. Lena, trembling from head to toe, dared not approach. Two of Scales’s men got out, grabbed her by the arms, and forced her into the car.

Not far away, Easton paused at the end of the block, hidden by the shadows of an old oak. He watched quietly as Scales’s men bundled Lena into the backseat and drove off.

He let out a cold, mirthless chuckle. These people really do play every angle, don’t they?

His eyes turned icy. Without another glance, Easton strode away into the night.

At the edge of the park, Lena was dragged out of the car. Natalia sat on a swing in the deserted playground, her posture regal, like a spoiled heiress surveying her domain. She watched Lena shiver in the dawn light.

“Easton seems to like you,” Natalia said, a sly smile curling her lips. “Not bad.”

Lena kept her head down, too frightened to speak.

“You know what you need to do, right?” Natalia’s gaze bored into her.

“Win his trust. Then find a way to bring him to Las Vegas. Gambling, drugs, sex—he needs to get his hands dirty with at least one of them, understand?” Natalia’s smile widened, sharp as a knife.

Scales laughed, stepping forward. “Don’t worry, she’ll do as she’s told. We’ve got enough dirt on her to ruin her for life.”

“I’ll do what you want,” Lena stammered, shivering.

“Good girl. No need to be scared. If you play your cards right, your luck’s about to turn.” Scales patted her cheek, then jerked his head toward the street. “Go on now.”

Lena nodded frantically and hurried away, nearly tripping over her own feet.

Natalia’s expression darkened. Her voice turned venomous. “She’s HIV-positive, right?”

Scales nodded. “Yeah. We made sure all the girls we use for this were infected. It keeps them in line. Plus, we’ve got piles of photos and videos on them—blackmail material. They don’t have a choice.”

He lit a cigarette. There was something almost demonic in the way he and Natalia worked. Their game was simple: use these women to bait the rich and powerful, ensnare them with scandal, disease, anything that would stick. If the targets didn’t play along, the evidence would destroy the pristine reputations they’d worked so hard to build.
