Italy.
It was rare for things to quiet down back home, with all the power struggles going on, but Tyrone had impeccable timing—he managed to steal away some time to be with his wife and child.
Kenney Lockwood was grumbling on the phone. This was supposed to be the busiest season for Evercrest Group, and he had hoped Tyrone’s “fake death” would finally give him a chance to manage the company. But the second Kenney let his guard down, Tyrone had slipped away.
“Mr. Lynch, please enjoy your time with your wife,” Kenney said, though his mind was muttering a litany of curses. Out loud, he had to sound polite—after all, this was Tyrone Lynch he was talking to.
Clayton, however, was nowhere near as diplomatic.
No sooner had Tyrone hung up with Kenney than Clayton’s call came through. It was almost as if the two had an agreement to bombard him one after the other.
“Tyrone! Are you really going to stay over there until your wife gives birth?” Clayton sounded like he was about to blow a gasket. “Have you completely lost it? Don’t you know Easton’s gone off the rails?”
“I told you, that kid’s trouble. Before he left the country, he roped Shaw and Natalia into helping him seize control of Lynch Corporation; then he put Natalia in as acting CEO. Is he insane, or what?”
Clayton was fuming. “If you keep hiding out over there, Lynch Corporation is going to be ruined by that kid!”
Clayton had always been the calm, collected type—a rock in any storm. But even he could be driven to the edge by Easton’s antics.
Truth was, Easton was nothing short of a prodigy.
And he never failed to get under Clayton’s skin.
Tyrone just chuckled. “How old are you, and how old is Easton? There’s a generation gap—let the young people handle things their way.”
He wasn’t about to interfere. He trusted Easton.
“You’re both crazy,” Clayton shot back, sounding utterly exasperated.
Was Easton really that trustworthy?
In the kitchen, Alicia Shelton waddled in, cradling a tray of freshly baked cranberry bread, her baby bump leading the way. She eyed Tyrone affectionately.
Tyrone didn’t give Clayton a chance to continue ranting—he hung up and hurried over to relieve Alicia of the hot tray.
Alicia didn’t really know what had happened between Tyrone and her Uncle Sean, but she could feel the tension between them, sharp and unspoken.
Every time Sean came to pick her up, Tyrone would make himself scarce.
At first, Alicia thought maybe Tyrone just didn’t trust Sean, or maybe he didn’t want anyone to know he was still alive. But once, when she forgot her check-up report, Tyrone came out to deliver it—yet even then, he and Sean barely acknowledged each other, not even meeting each other’s eyes.
Sean was the same way—he acted as though Tyrone didn’t exist. The two of them were more distant than strangers.
When Alicia suggested inviting Sean over for dinner, Tyrone was so startled that he dropped the bread onto the cutting board. “Why would we invite him? Absolutely not.”
Alicia looked at him. “Honey… is there something going on between you and Uncle Sean?”
“There’s nothing,” Tyrone said, dodging her gaze and making a move to escape the conversation.
“Look who’s here!” Winnie called from the doorway, leading Easton into the room, her voice bright with excitement.
