Natalia was stunned for a long moment. She’d thought she was the one outmaneuvering everyone, only to realize she’d been outfoxed by someone lying in wait—the “fox” being her own father.

“Dad… you’re getting older. Why not just relax and enjoy your retirement? Let me take care of everything from here,” Natalia tried to reason with him, hoping he’d hand over the reins.

He scoffed. “You’re still too young. Once we’ve secured the shares from Easton and Lynch Corporation is truly ours, then you’ll get your chance. There’s no rush.”

Natalia bit back her frustration. Now wasn’t the time to fight over who would be CEO.

At the Lynch family estate, Easton and Lena returned from their walk just as Shaw and Natalia arrived home. Natalia’s face was clouded with discontent.

“I’m flying overseas tomorrow,” Easton told Lena gently, trying to reassure her. “Take care of yourself, okay? Text me if you need anything.”

Lena nodded, looking a little forlorn.

“I’ll come back as often as I can,” Easton promised, pulling her into a hug.

Natalia let out a teasing laugh. “You two are always so lovey-dovey.”

Shaw smiled and excused himself. “I’ll go help the young master pack. You two can talk.”

Easton straightened up, a bit embarrassed by the teasing. “So, Natalia, how was your first day running the company? Settling in as CEO?”

He knew full well that Shaw had taken over her position—that his question would sting.

She forced a laugh. “No… I’m an only child.”

Easton looked unconvinced. “It’s just—The other day I overheard Shaw on the phone. Some guy called him ‘Dad’ and said he’d landed an internship at Lynch Corporation. Maybe I misheard…”

He shook his head and took Lena’s hand. “Come on, let’s go upstairs. You get some rest, Natalia.”

Natalia sat frozen on the couch, her expression darkening.

She pulled out her phone and quickly texted Scales, her well-connected friend.
