Rebecca let out a sigh and lowered her head. “Alright,” she said quietly.

That afternoon, Rebecca accompanied Dylan to deal with some business matters. Before they knew it, evening had arrived.

The LuxAura Hotel was right next door to their own hotel, so they headed back first to freshen up.

Not wanting to slight their important guests, Sean’s family had reserved a private dining room well in advance.

Katherine timed her arrival perfectly. The moment she spotted Alan, she hurried over and slipped her arm through his. “Alan, why didn’t you wait for me?”

Alan frowned slightly, trying to pull his arm free. But, not wanting to cause a scene, he just gave her a helpless look and muttered under his breath, “Don’t make a fuss. We’re in public—please just behave yourself.”

It was only then that Katherine noticed Alan’s parents.

She immediately put on her brightest smile. “Mr. and Mrs. Brown, good evening.”

Sean and Gina were surprised to see Katherine show up. They were well aware that she had always liked Alan, but neither of them approved of her. In their eyes, Katherine was hopelessly unsophisticated—lacking all the poise and grace of a proper young lady. No matter how they looked at her, she just seemed like a small-town girl pretending to belong.

Unfortunately, the Browns and the Fosters had arranged the engagement ages ago, and with Rebecca being a fake heiress, Alan had no choice but to marry Katherine.

Still, they’d never thought Katherine was fit to be Alan’s wife.

“Ms. Foster, what brings you here?” Sean asked, his tone laced with barely concealed annoyance. The last thing he wanted was for Katherine to ruin his dinner meeting with Dylan.

Katherine flashed another sweet smile. “I heard Alan was having dinner with an important business guest, and I just wanted to see what it’s like.”

Gina’s brow furrowed. “Katherine, this isn’t really the place for you. You should head home.”

Katherine’s face fell. She hadn’t expected Gina to brush her off so bluntly.
