"Is there anything you haven't lied to me about? I'm just asking out of curiosity." I turn to face him a bit annoyed and he sighs.
"Ocean, in my defense, a lot of people don't know, not even my parents."
"How is that-" I take a deep breath, "why?"
"Maria was the result of a one night stand, but her mother died soon after she was born, car accident. Perhaps a year after that I was arrested, and of course, custody was taken away from me, it was only till after I was released that I got it back, partially, but I had everything arranged already, where she'd live, with who, but I didn't tell her that I was her father
"You're barely making any sense right now, does she know now?"
"I do!" She chimes happily and I can't help but smile.
"Why'd you keep it from her?"
"I don't know," he answered and I scoff.
"That's disturbing."
"What is?"
"To find out that your brother wasn't your brother, but instead was your father."
"Well, when you say it like that ... "He shifts uncomfortably." She seems fine ..."
"Seems. She's young."
"You haven't been answering my calls ... or my texts." He changes the topic and I tilt my head at him.
"What is there to say, Trevor, other than I want nothing to do with you?" His face drops at the venom in my voice, even Maria gaped at me.
I avoided their eye and sigh, turning to look outside
"You brought Maria here, for what? We're not on good terms Trevor. You're putting her in an awkward situation."
"Ocean-"
"No, it's okay, I'd like to go home now." She says in a small voice and I can't help but feel bad, but it was true.
Maybe he brought Maria here, hoping that she could lessen the blow but that was unfair of him.
He called someone as we parked outside the mall, and soon a pretty woman came to stand outside of the door.
"Selena!" Maria nearly leaped out of the car seat at the sit of this lady. She had pretty brown eyes and the shiniest auburn hair.
"Hi sweetie," She coos, clipping her out of her seat, and Trevor smiles.
"Trevor." Selena nods, smirking a bit.
"Thanks, Selena, I'll pick her up later." She shuts the door and I watch as Maria disappears inside the mall with the mystery women.
"Is that who you've been spending your nights with?"
"Maybe." He says, and I scoff.
His knuckles were white against the steering wheel, tears running down his eyes.
"Tell me what to do." He whispers and I stare at him. "Anything ... I'll do anything to make it up to you."
"Really?" I raise an eyebrow and he turns to look at me, grabbing my hands.
"Anything."
I lean forward, clenching my jaw.
"Stay the fuck away from me, and don't ever call me again."
I rip my hands from his grip, and quickly get out of his car, slamming the door. In my heels and graduation dress, I walk to the nearest bus station, even more, pissed now that I had to go back to school to get my car.
Tears streamed down my face, and I hug myself, angrily wiping them away.
This was good.
This was good for me.
What was I doing? Being with a murderer?
Stupid me for thinking that he could've changed.
Now Dain's dead and an innocent man was killed as well, all because of me.
