Susanna's face drained of color. She shot the housekeeper a panicked look.

"Th-there's no need for that, right? It's not a severe injury, and it's so late..."

Susanna stammered, genuine fear lacing her voice. She had no idea there were cameras in the living room. It had been an impulsive act born out of spite. She assumed Jade would be too scared to tell Clayton, and she certainly didn't expect Clayton to check the security footage over such a minor incident.

"Should we check?" Clayton asked, looking at Jade.

The decision was hers.

Jade stared at Susanna for a long moment.

"Forget it," Jade finally said.

There was no point. Even if the footage proved Susanna did it, Clayton would still take Susanna's side.

Susanna let out a quiet breath of relief and quickly smiled. "Clayton, let's not push it. Maybe Jade doesn't want people to know what really happened. Let's give her some dignity and let her rest."

She was still trying to paint Jade as the guilty party, assuming Jade had backed down out of fear.

Jade clenched her hands tightly. A heavy silence stretched before she spoke. "Clayton, since there's footage, let's watch it. But I have one condition. If the video shows someone intentionally tried to hurt me, I'm calling the police."

Panic seized Susanna instantly. "Jade!" she yelled, her composure cracking.

Jade scoffed. "What? What are you afraid of? Afraid Clayton will see what a liar you are? Afraid he'll realize you're a fraud?"

Clayton turned his piercing gaze to Susanna. "There's still time to tell the truth."

Tears welled up in Susanna's eyes. "Clayton, I just... I just couldn't stand how she acted in the past. I couldn't stand how she bullied you when you were kids. I heard she did terrible things in the White family and always targeted you. I just wanted to teach her a lesson for you. I'm sorry..."

She played her part perfectly, banking on Jade's dark history to justify her actions.
