Jade frowned, ignoring Susanna, and limped into the office.

Alicia noticed the awkward gait. "What happened to your foot?"

Jade shook her head. "It's nothing. Stepped on a nail."

Alicia paused but didn't press the issue.

"I came to tell you something. Jude Holloway from Finance, Philip Ford from Bloom & Co., and Zackary Dean from Public Relations all approached me. They tried to talk me into backing Brandon White. Those three are clearly still working for him." Jade pulled out her phone and played the audio recordings for Alicia one by one.

Alicia looked at Jade with a profound gaze. Every step Jade took now was purely for survival.

The old Jade would have schemed endlessly to steal everything the White family owned. Now... things had truly changed.

Alicia reached over and turned off the phone before the last recording finished.

Jade blinked, a flicker of panic in her eyes. She feared Alicia didn't believe her.

"You don't need to prove this to me. I don't hire people I doubt, and I don't doubt the people I hire. Since I allowed you back into White Corporation, I chose to trust you," Alicia said smoothly.

Brandon wanted Alicia dead; it was time Jade realized her biological father was a monster devoid of humanity.

"Thank you." A lump formed in Jade's throat. She stood up, ready to limp back to her desk.

"You look terrible. Take three days of sick leave. Go home and heal up. Don't come back until you're better."

Jade was quiet for a moment before shaking her head. "A few of my projects are at a critical stage. I need to keep an eye on them, or competitors will snatch them up..."

"Your health comes first. Hand the projects over to me; I'll manage them personally." Alicia sighed. Jade was acting like a workaholic with nothing to lose, and it was a bit concerning.

Jade thought it over, nodded, and left the office.

The moment she was gone, Alicia's phone rang. It was Clayton.

Taking advantage of the situation was just good business, right?

Hanging up, Alicia chuckled to herself and immediately dialed Tyrone Lynch for some gossip. "Honey, I think something's going on with Clayton."

"There's always been something wrong with him," Tyrone shot back, never missing a chance to insult Clayton.

"He actually called to get sick leave for Jade and promised to take over her projects himself," Alicia giggled.

There was a long silence on the other end before Tyrone sighed. "Long before I met you, Jade was constantly making catastrophic mistakes. Do you know how she always walked away unscathed? Clayton was always the one cleaning up her messes in the shadows."

Alicia's jaw dropped. That was explosive news...
