Margaret pushed down the suffocating feeling rising in her chest and looked at the man in front of her with a calm expression. "I just brought Anna home from the hospital."
William's cold, sharp gaze deepened, and his fingers lightly brushed over Margaret's reddened eyes. His voice was low and tense. "Margaret, then why are your eyes so red? Did something upset you?"
A cold chill flashed through Margaret's mind. The sadness she had been trying to suppress came rushing back. She reached up to touch her eyes and forced a smile. "Really? I didn't even notice. Maybe it's because Anna got her sight back and was discharged. I'm just so envious... and sad. I'm still blind. I can't see a thing."
William’s gaze softened as he noticed her eyes becoming even more swollen, guilt and concern flickering in his dark eyes. He pulled her into his arms. "Margaret, I'm sorry..."
After a brief silence, his voice dropped even lower. "When you're well enough for surgery, I'll make sure you get it as soon as possible."
Margaret's body stiffened. She raised her face, her hollow eyes staring at him, and a bitter smile tugged at her lips. "Really?"
William took her hand and led her into the hospital room. "The doctor’s here. You can hear it from him."
After all, Margaret was blind, so William didn’t hesitate to give the doctor a pointed look.
The doctor sighed inwardly and spoke gently. "Miss Pierce, Mr. Bradford isn't lying. You're not ready for surgery right now."
A deep sense of disappointment washed over Margaret's face.
William saw it, and while his heart ached, a weight lifted from his chest.
He ushered the doctor out of the room, then kissed Margaret’s forehead in a soothing manner. "Margaret, don’t be upset. I’m here with you. It doesn’t matter if you can’t see. I’ll be your eyes."
"How about this? The weather’s nice today. I'll take you out to have some traditional wedding photos taken. You can't see them now, but one day you will, and then you'll know just how beautiful you are."
Margaret had been feeling down, but as soon as she heard William wanted to take her out, her eyes—though empty—seemed to spark with a glimmer of hope.
"Okay, I’ll get ready."
"Of course, Mr. Bradford."
The staff quickly complied.
"Mr. Bradford, the men's and women's changing rooms are separate. We’ll help Miss Margaret with her makeup and change into her wedding dress, and you can change into your groom’s attire. We’ll meet you at the shooting location, is that alright?"
William glanced at Margaret, then looked at the staff before leaving with a final instruction. "If my fiancée needs anything, come find me immediately."
Once William left, Margaret was led to the women’s changing room by the staff.
"Miss Pierce, we’ll help you get out of your clothes first, then we’ll help you into your wedding dress."
Margaret took hold of one of the staff’s hands and slipped a diamond ring into her palm. "Please, I need a favor."
