William immediately rushed Margaret to the hospital.

Outside the emergency room, the surgical red light was on, and William stood frozen at the door, his hands and feet cold with fear.

Holding Margaret had felt like holding a block of ice. Her body was cold, her face deathly pale with no sign of life. Her body was covered in old and new wounds—her skin marked with the evidence of the pain she had endured.

His heart twisted in agony as he replayed all the things he had done to her recently. He had refused to listen to her explanations, led the abuse against her, broken her wrist, forced her to drink alcohol despite knowing she was allergic to it, cruelly removed her corneas while she fought desperately, and locked her in the dark, damp basement to suffer for weeks...

His heart felt as if it had been bitten by the most poisonous snake, its venom spreading through his veins, causing him unbearable pain.

The last words Margaret had said to him echoed in his ears. "William, I regret falling in love with you. If there’s a next life, I never want to meet you again..."

"Ugh!"

William's face turned ashen, and he spat out blood, his body trembling with the weight of his guilt.

Margaret was completely disappointed in him, regretting her love for him and saying she never wanted to see him again in another life...

"William, get out!"

Benjamin stormed over, punching him hard, slamming him against the wall in his fury, determined to get justice for Margaret.

But Benjamin didn’t stop. His eyes were bloodshot as he continued to curse at him, "Get out! Aren’t you supposed to be marrying Amelia? Go marry her! You've hurt Margaret so badly, she only has hatred for you now. She doesn’t want to see you, so get out!"

William’s eyes flashed coldly. He kicked Benjamin down onto the floor. "What happens between Margaret and me is none of your business!"

"Asshole!"

Benjamin groaned in pain as he scrambled to his feet, charging at William again. "I’m going to teach you a lesson for Margaret!"

God, please, have mercy. Please return Margaret to me...

Time passed, minute by minute.

William stood there motionless for four hours.

Finally, the red light outside the emergency room went out, and the door to the emergency room slowly opened.

"Margaret, how is she?"

William rushed forward, his bloodshot eyes filled with desperate pleading. "Doctor, the surgery was successful, right? Margaret... she’s going to be alright, right?"

The doctor sighed deeply. "Mr. Bradford, the emergency surgery was successful, but Miss Margaret is only temporarily out of danger. She is in the late stages of bone cancer. Even the hospital director is powerless. She may have only a short time left."
