The security guards at the booth were equally stunned when they saw Henry pull up. "Henry, let us take that back for you and the missus. Don't carry it yourself, you might spill the hot soup and burn yourself."
Henry waved his hand dismissively. "No! You have to contribute for the food to taste good. My mom told me to get it."
He opened his car door and grabbed the bags one by one with his little hands. When anyone tried to help, he stubbornly pushed them away, his brow furrowed in a displeased scowl that perfectly mirrored his father's. He announced in his milky voice, "No touching. I can do it."
Intimidated by the tiny boss, the guards didn't dare intervene. They just watched helplessly as Henry maneuvered the bags.
He stuffed a few bags on the floorboard and piled the rest on the passenger seat.
Then, the little guy started his engine and happily drove back home to find his mom.
Mia had walked halfway down the path and watched her son confidently driving toward her, his little lips pursed in concentration. From a distance, his triumphant shout was louder than the toy car's horn. "Mia, I'm back!"
They met at the door, each grabbing a few bags, and hauled the feast to the living room coffee table. "I paused the movie for you. We can eat and watch," Mia said.
Henry kicked off his shoes in the entryway and started running all over the house in his little panda socks.
The toes were black, the soles and tops were white, and a little panda face sat perfectly on his ankles.
The little guy had picked out the socks himself. After grabbing the pandas, he insisted on buying tiger ones too. He completely ignored the bunny socks and clung tightly to the kitten ones, refusing to let go. "These are for Mia!" he had declared.
"I can't fit into those, they're for kids," Mia had told him.
Henry had thrown a tiny fit for ages before finally deciding he would wear them on her behalf.
He had also insisted on picking out a pair of bright yellow socks for his dad. Squatting on the floor, tugging at his father's pant leg, he had frowned. "Dad's socks are so ugly!"
Andre had stared at him. "...Get up. Are you done picking out your socks? I'm going to pay."
