I didn't exactly know what Atlas meant about coming with him. I don't know what he meant by starting again. All I know is that I was with him and we were both inside his car while he was driving somewhere far from the Metro. A place that I didn't know.
The skies started to be gloomy as the light and darkness fought for its place. The sun began to bid its goodbye, together with the rise of the moon. I am tired from the long ride that I let myself drown into slumber. I don't know how long I slept in so much tiredness. The only thing I knew was I was awakened by a soft kiss on my lips. And when I opened my eyes, Atlas' face greeted me.
"We're here," he whispered.
"I'm sorry, I slept."
I slightly moved away from Atlas. I just realized that I was leaning on his shoulder. I fixed the way I sat in embarrassment. I stretched my neck because it was stiff from my sleeping position earlier. After that, I caressed my tummy.
"The baby is hungry, I know." Atlas put his hand in the same place as my hand. He placed his hand on mine then touched my belly as he desired. "Grandma and Grandpa's been waiting," he muttered.
My eyes widened. I instantly looked outside of the car. I know my eyes aren't deceiving me. My lips formed a sweet smile as I saw Atlas' parent's looking at the car that we were in. Even if only the fluorescent lamp was the source of light, I could still see their eyes sparkling in happiness.
"I'm afraid that I will hurt them because of this, Atlas," I couldn't help but to utter.
"You won't hurt them. They missed you so much. They knew what happened to us and what I did to you," Atlas sighed. "I brought you here because I want to start from the beginning. Where I first met you. I want you to know me when you haven't come into my life yet, Olive," he said.
I pulled my hand from him. I sighed and nodded on what he said in resignation. Whatever he's planning for the both of us, I'll just let him. Maybe I would be enlightened on what I'm supposed to do. On what I will decide for the reason why Atlas wasted ten years before he could utter the words I've been yearning to hear.
We got off the car together. He quickly guided me when we started walking. He was carrying both our cellphones and my pouch bag. While my attention was on the bungalow house, particularly at the people standing at its balcony.
"Olive, my dear!" Atlas' mother cheerfully greeted. She immediately went to us and hugged me while teary-eyed.
My heart was moved by what I saw. I missed my mother-in-law as well as the whole family. Her tight embrace was the evidence that she felt the same. Her whispers as to how she missed us made my feelings lighter than ever.
"How are you, Mama?" I smiled at her after she withdrew from the hug. She held both my hands and smiled back.
"You, how are you? Come inside. Let's talk there. Well, I cooked a whole chicken for your arrival." She guided me inside the house. Atlas was already there, watching from afar while smiling fondly.
"I love you, Olive. I love you even though you're giving me an attitude," he said in a serious manner.
I nodded and averted my eyes towards the food. I felt my baby kick inside my tummy that made me smile. When I raised my head, teasing eyes greeted me. A gleeful smile was evident on their lips to show that they're happy for Atlas and me.
"Love is sweeter the second time around," Atlas' father commented.
"Of course," his mother agreed.
I only shrugged at what they said. Atlas did the same. I don't know what to say. I ended up eating my food and didn't give further comments.
Everyone was happy for us. Atlas' father and sister exchanged turns to talk to me. His mother also joined and it made the awkward atmosphere disappear.
The dining table was filled with laughter. This is Atlas' life that I failed to see before. He laughed with them, too. They seemed happy and content with the simple life and the simple conversation that they shared. A thing that was far from what I'm used to. Far from formal and calculated movements with my family.
