The chapter Chapter 7 is one of the most intense moments in The Beta's second chance mate, written by MissLulu004. With signature elements of the Internet genre, this part of the story reveals deep conflicts, shocking revelations, and decisive character changes. A must-read for anyone following the narrative.

After lunch Devon took us to the spa as promised and we had a great time, much to my dismay he paid for everything as usual.

We got home at 17:30 and girl was I beat and Sophie had fallen asleep on the way back. When we got home,Devon put Sophie in bed and received a call right after, which he said was from work. He was being called in at work to check something of importance that couldn't be postponed.

"When is Daddy coming home?" Asked Sophie.

"I'm not sure Baby, but I'm sure that he'll be home soon." I said trying to reassure her while giving her a hug.

It was now 21:13 and Devon was still not back. I called my mom about an hour ago to tell her about the situation and that I would be home late.

"How about you tell me about yourself,Miss Sophie?"I asked her as we sat in the living room.

Nodding with a grin she answered," My name is Sophie Amelia Black. I am four years old. I love the colour green,I love shopping for clothes and I love painting and colouring. I love burgers and pizzas and I love my Daddy. I have never met my mommy, but Daddy tells me that she was nice." Said Sophie with a sad smile at the end.

"I'm so sorry,Baby." I cooed as I pulled her towards me and hugged her. "How about we watch a movie and you can choose. I'll go make us some yummy snacks and I'll bring us some juice, yeah?" I asked her with a gentle smile as I looked at her beautiful eyes.

Her eyes were like those of the woman in the frames around the house. That must be her mother. If that woman is her mother,Sophie is going to become a beautiful woman.

The lady must stand at 3 to 5 inches taller than I am. She has beautiful, tan skin about a tan lighter than Sophie, a lean body and dark brown, curly, waist length hair or atleast it seemed. Not to forget her emerald, beautiful eyes filled with life and happiness. The woman is the splitting image of perfection.

I guess Sophie took her father's silky, black hair, but she is inbetween both her parents' skin tones.

To be honest when comparing myself to the lady,a wave of insecurity rushes over me. I am like an ugly duckling compared to her. It made me feel as though I was imagining all the affectionate moments I thought I saw Devon give me, because we are two worlds apart.

Sighing I looked down to be met with a now sleeping Sophie. I smiled at the adorable girl,I just couldn't help myself from giving her forehead a kiss.

In all those pictures, Devon looked so happy and in love and the sad truth is he would never look at me the same way he looks at her in those pictures.

I just met the guy and he is driving me crazy. Someone please tell me I am not losing my mind. Suddenly I heard the front door open and close. There's only one other person who has the house keys and that's Devon,so it must be him.

Turning around,I was met with the sight of an exhausted Devon. He had changed his casual clothes from earlier to more formal wear and I would be lying if I said it didn't suit him.

"Hey" He whispered as he took off his suit jacket and loosened his tie.

"Hi" I whispered back with a bit of unwanted sadness in my voice, thanks to my earlier discovery.

"Are you okay?" Asked Devon with his voice full of concern as he knelt infront of Sophie and I.

"Yeah, just tired. I better call my dad to come and fetch me." I whispered as I gently placed Sophie on the couch and stood up while already stretching my tired muscles.

Devon's POV

I was called by the Alpha for an important meeting due to a business meeting with an Alpha from another pack who comes from another country, so it was crucial that we reached consensus today because it might take a while before we see Alpha Ryan again.

The meeting took longer than anticipated because we were faced with more problems than solutions. Luckily at the end everything worked in all our favours.

When I got in, my mate seemed out of it. I could see that something was bothering her and her voice gave it away and thanks to the growing mate bond,I could feel her sadness.

Isabella's POV

Boy is Devon's room huge, not to forget the walk in closet. This thing is the size of the room on its own and the bathroom seemed to be huge as well.

Walking into the closet, I found a baby blue, soft button down shirt. When I changed into it, it reached my knees and it was so comfortable.

I walked into the room and really analysed it. It was quite beautiful. Next to the bed there was a nice nightstand with a frame on it.

When I got closer I realised there were two pictures in the frame. Both of them were wedding pictures of Devon and the same lady that was practically in all the pictures around the house.

They looked so happy and content in both pictures. In one picture they were kissing with his arms around her waist and hers were around his neck. In the other picture Devon had his arm around her waist and her head was laying on his shoulder.

They looked so in love in both pictures and honestly it made me a little jealous. I swear I could feel my heart breaking and I realised that I didn't know how much I liked Devon until now.

I gently put the frame down with tears clouding my vision and quickly left the room.

When I got into the guest room where I would be sleeping for the night, I gently closed the bedroom door then locked it before I let the dam break. I got on the bed and started bawling out tears and the worst part is that they were tears of envy and foolishness. I was pathetic to start falling in love with a stranger and expect them to feel the same way.

I squeezed my pillow out of frustration. Why was I crying over a guy I barely knew. Really now Isabella pull yourself together.

Maybe I mistook all of those friendly gestures for something more than just friendship maybe because I want them to be more than just friendly gestures. What I know for certain is that I'm taking my pardon for tomorrow.

That was my last thought before I fell into a peaceful sleep.
