My heart began beating really fast, I was so scared. From the voices of people crying I already knew that something bad had happened. Someone must had died. I just hoped it wouldn't be the person I was expecting.

"My baby, how are you?" My dad said in a shaky voice.

"Dad tell me what happened, please don't beat around the bush" I said on top of my voice demanding an answer.

"Come to Chicago right now, your mother is really sick, she wants to see"

"MOM? how? When? Okay I'm coming, I'll buy tickets right now" I said and hung up.

I was really scared, I loved my mom more than anything, except from children. She was my best friend when I had none, my rock, everything you'd want in a mother.

I didn't want her to die at all. I immediately logged in into my laptop and booked the next flight to Chicago. The flight was to take place in the next one hour.

I hurriedly packed some random pair of clothes into my box. I didn't even change my clothes, I wore the same old clothes I wore since morning. I booked an Uber that took me straight to the airport.

Through out the ride I kept thinking. I was nervous, I didn't want my mum to die. She was still very young.

I wasn't in the right place of mind. I kept crying over and over again. The Uber driver was worried but he didn't say anything, It was written all over his face. It was probably part of the rules not to interfer In the customers business.

After thirty minutes of driving we arrived at the airport. I came down hurriedly with my luggage and quickly went to check in. Fortunately for me, the attendant wasn't sluggish. So she did all the processing very quickly.

The time arrived for the flight. Everyone began trooping in. I looked for my seat number and settled in.

The flight was about an hour and fifty seven minutes so I slept off during most of the flight and when the plane was about landing I woke up immediately.

I had already pre-ordered an Uber driver to pick me up from the airport in Chicago.

The journey from my father's house to the airport was a very long journey. It was a two hour journey.

When I landed I called my sister and told her that I had arrived at Chicago. She sounded like she had been crying but she had to stay strong. It was then I knew something was wrong. Something really bad had happened.

Throughout the journey, I kept crying and praying. I bit my nails a few times and I screamed a few times. The driver knew something was up but he didn't say anything to me. I guessed it was actually against Uber rules.

My phone rang and when I picked it up to check who it was, it was an unknown number. Since I didn't know who it was I decided not to pick it.

It flashed through my mind that the next day was school and I didn't take a permit to leave. I couldn't care less.

After about half an hour crying I slept off, and by the time I woke up I found the car driving into my father's compound.

I hurriedly went out without taking my luggages and ran into the living room.

Everyone there was crying, I saw my dad, my sister and my brother and some few relatives. But no mom.

"Where is mom?" I said with a shaky voice.

"Athena calm down, calm down" my sister said coming towards my direction.

"No, don't tell me to calm down, where is mom, you told me she was sick, why are you guys crying?" I said already going mad.

"Athena, calm down" my father added.

"No, you guys lied to me, you lied to me she was sick, why? Where is mom?" I cried loudly while I fell on the floor.

It was then it dawned to me that my mother had just passed. I was devastated, I couldn't breathe, it was like I was choking. Many questions ran through my mind. What killed her? Why did she have to leave? Why now?

Everyone there tried to calm me down, but all to no avail. I left the house angrily and I didn't bother whether it was night. I paid the Uber driver and brought out my luggage and left on an endless stroll.

After two hours of staying outside going nowhere I headed back home.

Some people had gone to bed while some where in their rooms still sobbing. My sister was in the living room waiting for me.

"Hey" I said very dryly

"Athena, I know you're mad at us-" she said and I cut her.

"Yes, I am, I am mad at you big time" I said and broke down to tears.

Despite the fact they lied to me, they were still my family and I still loved them, but now was not the right time to start tossing blames around.

"But it's okay, I understand" I said and wiped my tears.

"She died immediately we called you" my sister said also trying to stay strong for me.

"Georgia, you don't have to hurt your self, let it out, we are all here together in this, and we are going to pass through it as a family" I said as tears rolled down my cheeks.

I went to her chair and placed her head on my chest while I stroked her hair.

"She had cancer, blood cancer" she muttered while crying.
