Victor lay on the ground, covering his face and howling loudly.
As he moved, the rotten fish-like stench spread. I told my wife to take Jane to the bedroom first.
When my daughter was leaving, Victor's eyes were glued to her body. Greedy and lecherous.
"Call the police," I said. I took out my phone and called the police myself.
Although I was extremely angry at the time, I still held back.
After all, I didn't want to hurt him too badly and end up in jail, unable to protect my wife and daughter.
When Ashley saw that I was calling the police, she rushed over to grab my arm. I dodged her.
"Didn't you want to call the police? They're on their way. I'll give you every penny you deserve. But the thirty thousand you took from me, the deadline's long passed. If you don't return it within a week, I'll report you," I said.
The couple exchanged a glance. They hunched their shoulders and didn't dare look at me.
Victor, lying on the ground, stopped howling. He looked at me with a strange expression.
The police arrived quickly. Victor wasn't seriously injured. They suggested we settle privately.
I paid two hundred dollars as compensation. And that was the end of it.
As soon as the police left, I kicked them out.
Victor may have left, but the nauseating stench still lingered in the air.
Of course, the boss didn't agree. It would be bad for the company's image.
So, he gave me full authority to investigate the matter. I could talk to each person involved.
It took me a day, but I finally traced the rumor to a cleaning lady in the company.
I called her to my office. As soon as I mentioned the police, she explained, "It was Ashley who told me. I just mentioned it casually. Why call the police on me?"
I pointed to the security camera. "Are you sure?" I asked.
She nodded firmly. "I'm sure."
