"This all sounds great – on behalf of our entire pack, I thank you Alpha Kace," Alpha Sheila says while standing to shake my hand. "Please say you'll stay one more night so we may dine and celebrate our new alliance," she says while still holding my hand. We all go our separate ways to relax for a while before the meal, and with a couple of hours to kill I decide to take Phoenix out into the woods for a run. Releasing Phoenix, we cover a great deal of distance in a little amount of time but stay within the territory. We stumble across a small pond and Phoenix guzzles from it greedily when he suddenly scents another wolf in the area. Growling ferociously, we let the intruder know we're not putting up with their bullshit and they should fuck off before we make them.

From the tree cover a large wolf – no, a she-wolf emerges and unreservedly approaches us. Phoenix's hackles are up, and every hair is standing straight as he gives one last warning to the threat who insists on walking closer and closer. I can scent she belongs to this pack but-
