Twin Mysteries novel Chapter 3

When I woke up, it was almost noon. John had just come home, changed into his slippers, and was approaching me slowly.

"You're awake. Andrew just called with an update on Emily's case," John said hesitantly.

"Do you want to know about it?"

The mention of Emily felt like a heavy burden on my heart.

Seeing my distress, John remained silent and went to the kitchen to prepare lunch.

The beautifully arranged dishes on the table did little to lift my spirits. I had no appetite.

After a moment's hesitation, I said to John: "Please, tell me what you've learned about the case."

Andrew informed us that Emily's body was found in a secluded alley behind a convenience store.

That morning, while taking out the trash, the store owner discovered the bloodied corpse. Shocked, he decided not to open the store for the rest of the day.

Then John noticed the scratches on my arm.

"Sophia, what happened to your arm?" he asked, concern in his voice.

I looked at my arm and replied: "Oh, I got scratched by a stray cat when I was feeding it downstairs a couple of days ago."

John nodded, seeming to accept this explanation without further comment, and reminded me to be more careful in the future.
