A few more people ran up to him, trying to hold him down as he began to scream more. They sedated him quickly. Out he went again.
The next day Paige pulled up next to Gabe's truck in the shrink's parking lot. She watched Faye and Gabe get out, "Hi." She muttered starting to feel like this idea was a bad idea.
Faye took her hand gently as Gabe wrapped his arm around her shoulders. "You okay Paige?" Gabe asked softly.
"Yeah, everything's good." She squeezed Faye's hand and laid her head against Gabe's shoulder a little. "Just don't leave me."
"Never." They both answered at the same time as they all walked into the little office building. It was painted a powder blue and the chairs matched. She could do this. She had to do this.
They signed and waited. Faye nor Gabe let go of her, it was the only thing that was holding her together. She was so grateful for both of them.
"Paige Ryder, Gabe Cummings, and Faye Jenkins." The secretary called out to them.
They got up slowly and headed up to the door. She clung to Faye.
"You're okay Paige, we're right here," Gabe told her as the secretary led them back to the smaller office.
Paige sat in between Gabe and Faye as the short, dark-skinned doctor came in.
"Hello Ms. Ryder, I'm Doctor Garcia, how are you today?" she sat down behind the dark cherry desk.
"Well, I'm here so that should explain a lot." Paige smarted off a little.
Gabe elbowed Paige, "Paige stop it."
"Sorry." Paige murmured.
"It's okay Ms. Ryder, explain to me what's been going on."
Gabe looked at Paige, "Her and my brother have been together for a while now, they have a little girl together, he went overseas, he's been MIA for five years now, I fear Paige is having some depression issues."
Paige closed her eyes trying to fight the tears.
"Okay, how long were you guys together?" Doctor Garcia asked as she pulled out a note pad from her middle draw of the desk, her brown eyes softened and showed compassion as she looked back up at Paige.
"We got together when I was sixteen and he was actually twenty, but both our parents knew and they said they were okay with it, so about six years now, like Gabe said we have a little girl, she's four years old." Paige stared back at the doctor but barely seen her at the same time.
"How long has he been missing?" the doctor asked as she scribbled on the notepad.
"Almost five years," Paige whispered.
"I'm sorry, what?" the doctor's head snapped up from the notes she was writing.
"Almost five years," Paige repeated. "I got pregnant shortly before he was deployed, I was nineteen, he was twenty-three."
