"Spencer, how'd you get here?" Jackson asked studying his face.
"A boy got me out Jackson, got me into a jeep, he drove me as far as he could, he pointed me in the right direction, I stumbled the rest of the way in. When can I shave?" he itched his beard a little.
"Tomorrow Spencer we'll try to get you home soon, Rupert is worried about what will happen if you find out this Paige has moved on."
"I already told you I'd let her go, reenlisting is the plan if she's found someone but my child will know I love them very much." Spencer didn't flinch or bat an eyelash as he talked to Jackson. He was serious.
"Okay Spence, let me talk to Rupert." He slowly got up and squeezed Spencer's shoulder before he headed out of the secluded room.
Spencer let out a sigh and laid he head down on his arms on the table. Why couldn't they see he was fine? He wasn't fucked up he just wanted to go home.
Jackson walked out of the room and looked back. He never saw a man not suffer from some kind of trauma after being captured. Never saw someone come back and be so okay. This kid had a good head on his shoulders and if home was where he wanted to be then home was where he needed to be.
He headed to his office and paged for Rupert.
The gray-haired psychologist came in slowly. "Jackson, you wanted to see me?"
"Yes, let Spencer get cleaned up tomorrow, after that, we will watch him for a couple more days, maybe a week and see how he does then let him go home."
"Yes sir." Rupert left the office. He didn't know how he felt about this at all, what if they let Spencer go and all hell broke loose? Oh well, he guessed. They'd just have to wait and see.
A week had gone by since the failed attempt at having the head doctor attempt to help Paige. She was busy hustling around trying to keep up with the demand of the customers. Faye had taken the day off to be with Gabe for the day. Which wasn't an issue with Paige but the other two waitresses had called off due to the flu. She couldn't believe her luck though, she was always rushing around between being there for Aurora and doing her job.
Paige was almost at her wit's end when Faye came rushing into the diner. "Paige, why didn't you call me?"
Paige shrugged her shoulders, "I was fine Faye, honestly, Jan will be here soon." She spun around to grab another plate of food when she got really dizzy all of a sudden. She placed her hand on the wall quickly. She took a deep breath and grabbed the plate of food and rushed to a booth. "Here Hal, enjoy, need anything else let me know." She smiled the fake smile she was getting really good at anymore.
Faye frowned at her employee, "Next time call me." She threw on an apron and began to help. She couldn't believe Paige was so stubborn, worse since the visit to the psychologist.
They both rushed around to get everything done.
The rush finally faded out, Faye and Paige cleaned everything, got the dishes done, and grabbed some drinks. They both fell into chairs.
