"Would you mind braiding my hair for me? I can't do it and I love how you do it" She asked me with a polite smile.

I quickly nodded and followed her upstairs to her room. She sat at her vanity and I busied myself with her hair.

"Dinner was amazing as always, thank you" she smiled and I nodded in thanks. Once I finished the braid I stepped back.

"Thank you" she grinned as she admired her hair in the mirror. I nodded then left.

I put away the vegetables then went down to my room. I closed the door and walked towards the chest. I kneeled in front of it and slowly opened the lid. Inside was a few jackets, tops, pants and underwear. I only had one pair of shoes and I was currently wearing them.

I moved the clothing out of the way and pulled out the small box that was hidden underneath.

A sad sigh left my lips as I stared at the contents.

My mother's necklace that she wore everyday, a pair of her earrings, her engagement ring and two photographs.

The first photo was of my mother, father and I. I was 6 at the time.

It was my mother's birthday and we had a pack barbecue. I was on my father's shoulders with a happy grin on my face while my father had one arm on my leg to keep me steady and another around my mother's waist as they smiled at the camera.

The second photo was of my mother and I. It was my 8th birthday and I was blowing out the candles on my cake while my mother held it. My mother was laughing because she got one of the candles that don't go out and I was getting frustrated.

I let out a small laugh that turned into a sob. I cried quietly to myself as I stared at the photo.

I slowly placed everything back in the box and hid it again then closed the chest.

I went over and laid on my bed with my knees curled up into my chest and cried myself to sleep.

Jacob Wilson

"Mutt!" A voice screamed.

I hopped of the edge of my bed and ran as fast as my bruised legs could carry me.

I entered the living room and bowed my head.

"The alpha and his family will be coming over for dinner later. I trust that you'll make an exceptional dinner, yes?" Kiera asked.

I nodded my head as I played with my fingers behind my back, not meeting her scrutinising gaze.

"Good because I'd hate to see what'll happen if it's anything but exceptional" she said sweetly but the threat was clear.

I mutely nodded again and she dismissed me. I immediately went to the kitchen seeing as I only had a few hours to make an 'exceptional' dinner.

I flicked through a cooking book before deciding to cook a chicken casserole and a chicken salad for Kiera and Layla because they're fussy about their weight.

As the chicken was cooking and I was chopping the salad, the doorbell rang. I jumped in surprise and looked towards the clock, that couldn't be them. They weren't meant to arrive for another 2 hours.

I bit my lip as I concentrated on the voices by the door. My body relaxed once I realised it was just one of the pack members talking to my dad.

I nodded and grabbed her curler and began to loosely curl her hair. I grabbed a flowery clip from her vanity and clipped her hair in.

"It's beautiful thank you" she grinned as she admired her hair. I sent her a small smile before leaving the room.

I went back into the dining room and quickly set the dining table. As I placed the last plate down the doorbell rang. I waited for someone to come downstairs to open it but no one did.

Not wanting to anger the Alpha by waiting, I quickly walked towards the door and opened it.

I immediately dropped my head and opened the door wider for them. I shuddered when I noticed that the Beta had tagged along.

My hands began to shake as I gestured for them to follow me and I led them into the living room.

Thankfully my father had come downstairs and went to entertain our guests.

I began to serve up the plates and went into the living room.

I knocked gently on the door and then opened it.

"Dinners ready. You can go to your room mutt" my father announced and went to stand, leading everyone into the dining room.

I kept my head down until the last person left. But the last person didn't leave, he stayed.

Well polished shoes entered my vision and a rough hand caressed my cheek. I flinched back but he gripped my chin and turned me to face him.
