The expense account for the materials is approaching two thousand dollars and I would really appreciate it if you would find a way of transferring the money. Also I will need five hundred dollars, so that I can pay the workers.

With regards,

Dorina

The tone of the e-mail was very formal; I guessed that Dorina was perhaps upset.

I could not understand why, after all, she was the one who introduced me to Oana.

I figured that this was her way of putting me and Oana to the test. If I agreed to take Oana with me on the trip, that would prove that Dorina didn't mean a thing to me. If Oana agreed to come along that would prove that she was really not such a good friend to Dorina. I thus concluded that Dorina might be angry with both of us.

A few days later, I received a call from Angelo, who wanted to know how many girls were coming on the trip. He told me that he had reserved a hotel in Varna from the second of August for a week.

When I questioned him about Fabrizio, he told me that things were okay and that the bar was starting to come along, albeit in small steps.

Fabrizio had decided to hold an official grand opening at the bar and invited all the people he knew along with Angelo's friends. He sent me a message to say that I must come to the opening party.

I promised him that I would come, but I asked him if he could postpone it for two weeks, as I was planning to come then to Bucharest for a few days.

I had to be in Warsaw and Budapest for business, so I decided to continue from there to Bucharest by flight.

When I was through with all my meetings in Warsaw, I took a train to Budapest, where I spent two days. I was going to take a plane the following day to Bucharest.

I immediately informed Fabrizio and Angelo that I would be arriving in Bucharest the next day.

A short while later I sent an e-mail to Oana.

My dear Oana,

The mere thought that we will be seeing each other tomorrow thrills me. I am constantly thinking about you and I hope that you are thinking about me.

See you tomorrow,

Giorgio

My next e-mail was to Dorina.

Dear Dorina,

I am arriving in Bucharest tomorrow. I sincerely hope that the renovations in the apartment are coming to an end. Please update me upon my arrival when we can set a time to see the apartment. I would really like to be impressed by the work.

Regards,

Giorgio

At first she looked a bit embarrassed, but she quickly recovered and came up to me and hugged me tightly. She pressed a kiss on my cheek; I returned the kiss on her cheek. When I tried to kiss her on her other cheek she pressed a short kiss on my lips.

"Is that all the luggage you have?" she asked, when she noticed that all that I was pulling was a small trolley.

"Yes," I answered."I have some clothes in the apartment where I will be staying. What I have in here is the clothing I needed for the few days that I was travelling on business."

We took a taxi to the city, and as usual, the driver drove very recklessly. I asked Oana to tell the driver to kindly slow down.

We were sitting in silence in the back seat of the taxi, when she suddenly placed her hand on my knee. I took hold of her hand and she smiled at me shyly.

"So we're going to Bulgaria in August?" she asked in order to break the silence.

"Yes, we are and I am real glad that you have decided to come along," I answered.

"Where are you staying in Bucharest?" she asked.

"Strada Mihai Voda," I responded. "Do you know where that is?"

"Of course, that is on the pedestrian shopping street. " she answered.

"That is precisely where my apartment is," I told her.
