"What do we do, Fabrizio?" Angelo bluntly asked.

"I don't know," Fabrizio answered. "I have come to a dead end. I don't really understand it. The turnover in the bar increased and yet there was no money left. The only explanation I have is that Luciana cleverly stole thousands of euros from under my nose and then fled. I also suspect that the barman I hired was involved with her and helped her steal the money especially when I was not there."

"Perhaps you should re-open. I will ask Mihaela to help you for a few months, while you try to rejuvenate the bar. It is a shame to see your investment go to waste," Angelo suggested.

He called Mihaela over, told her about his suggestion and asked her what she thought. She didn't flatly reject the idea, but didn't agree either. However, she liked Fabrizio and knew that she could work with him.

"I propose a fifty-fifty partnership," Fabrizio suddenly blurted out. He surprised everybody with his proposal.

"Now, that's different totally different story," Mihaela responded.

I was very happy to see that they had reached an understanding.

"Friends, enough babble. Take matters into your hands, if not, the gypsy is just waiting to take it all," I said.

After Fabrizio and Mihaela finalized their agreement, we celebrated with a few drinks of Ţuică. That was when I pulled Fabrizio to the side.

"Tell me, Fabri. Why don't you call home," I asked."Giulia will divorce you, and you won't have any more connection with your daughter Rosanna. That would be terrible. By the way, are you in touch with your brother Giulio and your sister Matilda?"

"Yes, I talk to Giulio. The problem is that he wants to come here to Bucharest and I always have to talk him out of it. I'm barely surviving myself and if he comes I will have to support him," Fabrizio answered.

"What about Matilda?" I asked.

"Matilda has her own problems trying to deal with Elia, who is driving her crazy. Ever since he returned from the trip, he has become restless and irritable. He sits glued to the computer all day and sends e-mails which he immediately deletes. She knows what he doing, but remains silent for fear of losing him," he explained.

"At least you know that they are financially secure and you don't have to worry about supporting them," I said.

After a long silence, I asked Angelo, "What do we do?"

"I don't know," Angelo said."He's kept in the morgue of the hospital. We have to concern ourselves with getting the body out for burial. When I told Giulia, guess what she said to me. 'You killed him, now you bury him.' What can I say, I don't know what to do," Angelo said.

"Give me a few minutes to digest the news. I'll call you back," I told Angelo.

When I hung up the phone I just sat there in silence, completely paralyzed. All my strength drained out of me.

I finally picked up the phone and called Gert in Lucerne, as I needed some encouragement.

"May I speak to Dr. Hoffman?"I asked. "It is urgent."

They transferred me right away to Gert, who was in the middle of an examination. I remembered how I used to tell him to remove the shit from his finger, as I always did, teasing him at the beginning of our telephone conversations, but now was different.
