Steven too was staring. While he listened to the man on the line, he couldn't tear his eyes away from Angela. He wanted to have these moments again. The moments when he was swamped in work but just her presence in the room made his day better. And when Angela's gaze had met his own as if she had finally felt him watching her, his brain couldn't focus on work anymore. Within thirty seconds, he had ended the call.
"I apologize for keeping you waiting but I am working beyond my limits to figure out all the projects your father had left behind unfinished. I don't want to leave any detail missing from what he had planned. I want to make everything perfect for Jack's memory." Steven spoke when he went to meet Angela.
Angela nodded, understand and agreeing with him. "You look tired."
"So do you." He sighed sadly.
Days had passed since her father's funeral and Angela had since been hushed, reserved and completely unaware of what she was feeling. The tears she had cried, she couldn't decipher why she did. She was still debating with herself whether she was sad for losing Jack or because she had given him a second chance too late.
Her feelings were all mixed up. And the events that happened earlier that day had caused her brain even more confusion.
Steven quickly read her fatigue and seemingly lost state. He knew her father's loss was the main cause of it. As much as he wished to ask how she was, he knew she wouldn't have an actual answer. Instead of speaking, he just went on to engulf her in his arms. He didn't need to ask anything to know she needed the small gesture of comfort.
And she really did. The long minute or so that Angela was held close to Steven, she felt some of her uneasiness releasing from her tense body. His comfort managed to calm her but not push away any of her thoughts.
Angela moved back a little from Steven, releasing from his embrace in the process. "I just came back from meeting my father's solicitor. Apparently my father had left a short will." She stepped away from him. "He left me everything."
"That's great news for you." Steven spoke with excitement in attempt to brighten her mood.
"Is it?" Angela faced him and this time, her eyes were glassy. Though she should be ecstatic that she was now the owner of several big bank accounts and properties, Angela's face was blank and she seemed distant. "I feel the same as the day you divorced me."
Steven met her in one stride. "Angela..."
