“Fine, fine, I’ll be waiting for your downfall!” Grace said, leaving after a moment of silence.

Ryan seemed unfazed by her words and instead asked if I wanted to go somewhere. I did want to go out but not with Ryan. So, I replied, “No, I want to go home.”

“Alright, we’ll go home,” Ryan agreed without pressing further and immediately booked a flight back.

Throughout the journey, Ryan’s attentiveness made my back feel chilled.

He seemed to sense my every emotion and need.

The company seemed less busy, with Ryan working from home most of the time. I felt as though I was under constant surveillance.

One day, after dinner, Ryan suddenly mentioned my birthday and expressed his wish to throw me a belated birthday party.

I felt it was unnecessary, as I might not even make it to the party.

Ryan appeared to be clear-headed and emotionally stable.

I attempted to bring up the subject of leaving once more.

As soon as I spoke, the atmosphere grew tense. I watched as Ryan gripped his cup tightly.

Fearing another outburst, I quickly changed the topic.

“The weather is nice today; we could go out and get some sun.”

Ryan was not swayed by my diversion.
