Why was he pretending to he drunk?
Before I could think it through, Ryan was already banging on the door.
I opened it a crack, trying to calm him down. Ryan ignored me and forced his way in, pinning me against the entrance.
“You must be hiding something from me. Didn’t you still have tasks to finish? Why are you leaving at the moment?”
Ryan grew more agitated as he spoke, while I asked him why he was pretending to be drunk.
Ryan fell silent. I realized that since the last time he doubted me, he had never fully trusted me again.
He might be pretending to be drunk to get information out of me.
I could understand his mistrust; after all, he hated me so much now that he would hardly believe me easily. Ryan’s eyes were turbulent, but I remained calm:
“Deceiving you was part of my mission. In fact, my task had already failed a long time ago, and I was just kept here.”
“Approaching you was only meant to make it easier for me to survive in this world.”
“And now that we’re both fed up with each other, it’s better to part ways sooner. I’ll go find my own way out.”
I calmly told another lie. Ryan hated me even more than I had imagined; I dared not tell him the truth.
I feared that he would use every means possible to destroy me.
Ryan was nearly out of control, holding onto my arms and waist as if afraid I would escape. “You’re lying to me again! Emma Carter, how many of the things you’ve told me are true?”
Ryan was furious, believing that everything from the beginning had been a deception.
Apart from the parts related to the game system, everything else I told him was the truth. However, I refused to reveal the whole truth and continued to provoke him by lying:
“Everything is fake! All of it is fake!”
“My appearance is fake, my name is fake, my voice is fake—everything you see is fake!”
