As soon as Eli stepped out of the library doors, she stopped in her tracks when she saw Josh standing in front of the building.

The young man was still wearing his Miller University sports uniform, his shirt slightly damp with sweat and his hair looking messy after practice. In one hand, he held two cups of iced coffee, while his other hand carried a paper bag filled with several snacks.

Seeing him, Eli could only let out a small sigh. She had not expected Josh to actually come after practice just to see her.

“You really came?”

Josh raised one of the cups of coffee. “Didn’t I say I would come?”

Eli took the coffee he offered her. As soon as she saw her favorite drink, her expression immediately softened. “You even bought this for me.”

“And snacks.” Josh raised the paper bag in his hand. “I knew you probably hadn’t eaten.”

“I already ate.”

“How much?”

Eli fell silent.

Josh immediately grinned. “See? I was right, wasn’t I?”

Eli snorted, but eventually laughed softly. “You know way too much about my habits.”

“Because you’re easy to figure out.”

They then sat for a while on a bench not far from the library. Josh opened the paper bag and took out several snacks, then pushed them toward Eli.

The girl initially took only one, but after a few minutes, without realizing it, her hand reached for another snack. Josh said nothing, only smiling in satisfaction as he watched her eat.

There was a simple feeling that made his chest feel warm whenever he saw Eli nearby without a care in the world. He did not need a big reason to come see her. Bringing her coffee, remembering her favorite food, or simply walking with her to the dorm was enough to make an exhausting day feel lighter.

“Did you just finish practice?” Eli asked while holding her cup of coffee.

“Yes. We just finished a scrimmage.”

“With whom?”

“Several opposing teams. We want to prepare as well as possible before the game.”

Josh then began telling her about the progress of his team.

He explained how their defense had become more coordinated, how some of the players who had previously often lost focus were now starting to maintain the rhythm of the game, and how the coach kept asking them to improve their transitions.

When talking about basketball, Josh’s face looked much more alive. There was a passion he could not hide, as if all the exhaustion after practice simply disappeared whenever he talked about something he truly loved.

“The coach said our game has gotten much better,” Josh said. “But there are still a few things we need to improve. I want this team to be truly ready when the game comes.”
