"And my Mindy is not good enough?" Grandpa barked out.

"Please Mr. River, let me explain," Jeremiah said, in his voice a serious tone.

"I don't need to hear any excuses, my Mindy is as good as any of those women out there," he argued.

"She's sterile," Jeremiah suddenly blurted out.

I felt my eyes grow wide at his confession. My world seemed to come to an end with those two words. I stood, feeling my legs wobble a bit.

"H-how does he know that," I asked, my voice breaking.

Jeremiah stood, taking my hands in his, he stroked the back of them with his thumbs.

"Mindy, the only reason Gunner did not want you as Luna is because...because you will not be able to carry the future Alpha, not because of the way you look," he whispered.

"I understand," I managed to reply, but I really couldn't. Why couldn't Gunner simply let Jeremiah or Jeremiah's first born son take the position as Alpha should anything ever happen to him?

"No Mindy, I know you don't, I can see it in your eyes, you are hurt," he replied.

"But in the end I have to be okay with it whether I like it or not. What's the point in wallowing in misery?" I replied, with a faint shrug of my shoulders.

Jeremiah frowned, in his eyes a deep pitiful look. "Listen Mindy, Gunner and you are eventually going to have to talk about this. I think he owes you that much." he said.

Grandpa sighed and shook his head taking a seat next to me while gently reaching out to place a hand on my shoulder. "You'll be okay Mindy, I promise you," he encouraged.
