His expression softened a little as he stood up. “Let me drive you to the hospital.”

Cynthia’s eyes widened and she quickly waved her hands.

“That’s really not necessary. I’m fine, honestly.”

To prove her point, she stood up from the couch and, despite the pain, took a few careful steps across the room.

“See? I’m totally fine.”

Her ankle throbbed with a dull ache, but there was no sharp pain—probably just a strained ligament. Going to the hospital for something so minor felt like wasting everyone’s time. She figured she’d feel better after a good night’s sleep.

Dominic watched her, his brow furrowed, eyes fixed on her foot.

Cynthia forced a polite smile, making her way to the entryway. Her voice was soft and formal as she spoke.

“Thank you for dinner, Mr. Holloway. It’s getting late, so I should head home.”

Dominic approached, his expression unreadable.

“I’ll walk you out.”

Without waiting for her reply, he picked up her tablet and bag from the console by the door.

Cynthia tried to object. “That’s really not necessary, Mr. Holloway. My car is just downstairs.”

He barely glanced at her, slipped on his shoes, and stepped into the hallway, waiting by the door.

Hurrying to slip on her own shoes, Cynthia followed, closing the door behind her. She lowered her voice as she insisted again,

“Mr. Holloway, I can manage. Please, go get some rest. I’ll drive myself home, it’s no trouble.”

She was as respectful and courteous as she could be, but Dominic’s face darkened, his brow twitching in irritation.
