"What was it?" Daph asked, her curiosity piqued.

Just then, Selene slid open the kitchen's glass door, and Adrian emerged carrying a steaming bowl of noodles. He sat down next to Luke, while Selene joined Daph on the other side of the table.

"Selene made me noodles. Take a whiff," Adrian said, holding the bowl under Luke's nose for a split second before pulling it away. "I'm sure you've had Selene's cooking before, brother-in-law. You're probably tired of it. But for me, getting to eat something she made herself is a rare treat."

Daph, overhearing him, chimed in. "You can never get tired of Mommy's cooking!"

"Your uncle has lived with your mommy longer than you have," Adrian pointed out.

Luke glanced at the bowl of noodles and let out a cold laugh. "There's no egg in that bowl. That means it was made for a guest. When Selene cooks for family, it doesn't look like that."

Daph's eyes widened in realization. "That's right! Mommy always adds an egg when she makes noodles for me."

Adrian took a bite of his noodles and then looked at Selene. "So, when are you going to make me family?"

Luke had thought his comment would sting Adrian, but it was Selene who nearly choked on her food. "Luke made scrambled eggs with tomatoes," she explained quickly. "I didn't think you needed an extra egg."
