"I don't know who you're around, or who's around you so I advise that you read this letter when you get home."
My heart was racing, my hands shaking as I held the piece of paper. I had just sent Trevor on to the grocery store just so I could get to read this letter alone.
"Ms. Devila, I believe that you are in trouble, and I believe that you are also in danger. You're aware that you're ex-boyfriend was brutally tortured then murdered, and you came to me to find out who did it.
The things I unraveled Ms. Devila, the things I found out I knew for a fact that I wouldn't make it to tell you in person.
I can't say everything I want to, because if they find out by some miracle that you know, they'll kill you."
I couldn't read anymore as my stomach heaved and I had to rush to the bathroom as I threw up into the toilet. My palms were sweaty, and I felt like I was getting a stroke.
What the hell is he talking about?
I didn't know if I had the courage to read the rest of the letter, but I had to. I groan and flush the toilet before hesitantly reading the rest of it.
Ocean in one of our conversations you said that you saw a strange watch that you had never seen the victim Dain White wore, I need you to check Mr. Vatore's room for it.
I am not asking you to conclude just yet and I am begging you, to please do not confront him. This man is very dangerous.
I also need you to revisit the house, I left some clues for you there.
You're a smart girl Ms. Devila, you're a strong woman, I'm sorry that I couldn't fulfill my job till the end.
Mr. Rasco."
My eyes were filled with tears as I began sobbing into my hands. My heartfelt heavy as it dawned upon me that I'm most likely the one who caused this man's death.
And Trevor? Did Trevor kill Dain?
I swallowed hard and the thought, and tried to think carefully of any clues that might point towards him.
Of course, I knew he was a part of the Mafia, not only that but I had told him Dain was abusing me, but how would I have known that he would've killed him!
Okay, okay, we don't know that for sure.
The night ... The night that Dain was killed was Trevor home?
Wiping my tears I quickly stand and shake Listerine in my mouth.
Come on, come on you idiot! Think!
Yes! Yes, he was home! I think he cooked... Or I cooked I can't remember but he was there!
So it couldn't be him, right?
Well, finding the watch would tell. I wipe my eyes before nodding.
I need to find the watch ... And then I'd be able to figure it all out.
Okay.
I nod at my reflection in the mirror before splashing my face with water and drying it off. I tuck the letter into one of my denim Jean's before clearing my throat and just trying to wrap my head around everything.
I hear the front door open, and I close my eyes, taking a deep breath.
"Ocean?" He calls and I reopen them. There's silence for a moment and I bite my lip. His footsteps approach and I watch the door handle jiggle.
"Ocean?" He calls a little more softly.
"I'm coming right out!" I call shakily and I curse myself.
After a few more deep breaths I unlock the door to find him frowning down at me.
"Hey."
"Ocean-"
"You know, I don't feel so well, I'm not hungry either so." I stand abruptly and he does the same.
I back away, knocking over the chair.
"What's wrong?" He looked confused as I look at him, crazed.
"Nothing I'm just tired- stop!" I screech as he takes a step towards me and he looks taken aback.
"Trevor I'm sorry I'm just a bit tired okay? Excuse me." I walk away quickly, shutting my door behind me before sinking to the floor. I felt like I was going crazy.
I woke up early the next day, getting ready for school, even if I didn't have class until 12.
I sneaked out at six and practically raced down the street to the bus stop.
I spent the morning reading the letter over and over in a little cafe that was near the school.
I needed to find a way to get into Trevor's room, but if he wasn't home his door was locked.
Okay, so I need to find the key.
I need to watch him put his key away, and then take it from there.
A big part of my mind was wondering why did I still care? Dain was dead, and I... I was supposed to be happy. Why am I still on this?
Maybe if it was someone else Rasco had mentioned, maybe if it wasn't Trevor, my boyfriend, maybe I would've let it go.
But I can't... I can't find myself in the same situation that I'd been in just a few moments ago.
People learn from mistakes, they don't go back to then.
