I got up early for once in my life, hopping in the shower to get an early start. My bruises, having time to heal, were still there but they were fading.
Where was Dain?
I'm not complaining, but I was curious...wary. Was he planning something? I don't think he would just up and ignore me not after I've been trying to make him do that for years.
Enjoy it while it lasts. With a heavy sigh, I walk into my bedroom and rummage through my closet.
I don't know why but I was excited to see what Trevor's life was like, even if was just a little glimpse.
I choose a nude off shoulder with some light ripped skinny jeans. I paired it with brown sandals and I try my best to put my wild woolly hair into a bun.
A knock on my door has my stomach erupting with butterflies. I blow out a breath before walking over and pulling open. I feel underdressed as I notice him in his expensive-looking navy suit and enhanced curls. His Cologne was intoxicating, way better than the stifling one Dain had.
"You look good." He breathes, his eyes quickly skimming over my body.
"Thank you. So do you." I offer him a small smile to which he smirks.
"Shall we?" He steps aside and I walk in front of him, into the kitchen. "We can have breakfast out." He states and I nod.
For the first time, I actually noticed his car. Fully mustard colored with a black stripe in the middle laid an Audi.
"This is all yours?"
"Nah, I just own the steering wheel."
"Haha, so funny." I deadpan as he chuckles, we get in and I note how much it smells like him.
"So we're hungry? Off to get some wings."
"You're going to get some serious heartburn. If you keep eating all those wings." I joke as he completely devours another hot wing.
"You're completely right." He states, not even bothering to stop eating and I chuckle lowly, deciding to just enjoy mines also.
"You don't like garlic bread?" I question him, and he shrugs.
"I'm just here for the wings."
Wiping my mouth with the napkin, he leans back in his chair.
"When do you start school?" He asks.
"Two weeks from now."
"How long do you plan to stay?"
"Because I'm older, I have to leave early so I'll be in school for about five, maybe six months before I obtain what's needed for me to get my dream job." I sigh happily. "The only downside is I have to meet with that grumpy Mr. Henderson again."
"I have a feeling he'll turn around, maybe even be nicer," Trevor says, his eyes glimmering with a hint of something I couldn't catch and I snort.
"Right."
"I work in different places, about six of them in this state." He says and I blink, confused.
"Why? How?"
"Y-yes, sir." He places his hand on the small of my back, leading me into the office.
"Alright, here we are." Two portraits of him, a large Mac desktop, a wide desk, and a huge black chair. It looked like it came straight from a movie, yet it seemed all too much like him.
"Power is a lonely man's weakness." I read out loud and he turns to look at me.
"Something my dad used to always say, I then decided that it deserved to be stuck in the room where he helped me achieve everything."
"What does it mean?" I murmur and he comes to stand next to me.
"Power is a dangerous thing and causes downfall for so many people. You would find that most people who crave power are lacking the understanding of love... they may have a wife, but she doesn't know how to properly insert that feeling of security into the man. He goes mad with an unquenched need for power, and with no one to share and manage the power with, he eventually lets it consume him, until he himself, is barely recognizable."
Is that what happened with Dain?
His lack of attention from his parents?
Does he feel like he needs to hold power over me because he can't control his rage?
"What's going on in that mind of yours?" Trevor whispers closer this time and I shrug.
"That's a beautiful quote, it makes me look at things a bit differently."
"Don't get too deep we have other places to go." I can practically feel his smile, causing my lips to lift.
"Alright Mr. Hotshot, lead the way."
