“Oh, right!” she exclaimed, pretending to remember all the things she had to do. “I completely forgot. You’re right. I have so much to do. I’ll see you two later. It was great to meet you, Kat.”
“Likewise,” I smiled, catching on to their little game and meeting Jacob’s gaze.
“Shall we?” he offered, extending his hand. I took it without a second thought.
Jacob took his time as we walked out of the Queen’s bedroom, with me still reeling in shock that the Luna’s bedroom would be my living quarters during my stay here.
“The top floor is reserved for the Royal Family and our Beta,” he explained, as I nodded along politely. “The next floor down is for high-ranking unmated wolves. Most of my warriors live there. You’ll meet them all eventually.”
“I can’t wait,” I replied, feeling a bit awkward. If I was just a guest, why would I need to meet all his warriors? I tried to push aside what he had told me in the car earlier. I wasn’t ready to think about it. Every time I let my mind wander back to that conversation, I felt myself getting lost.
We walked down to the ground floor, and he showed me several reception halls and drawing rooms. Each one was more magnificent than the last, each with its own unique style and colors. But the library is what truly caught my attention.
“Oh. My. Goddess.” I gasped as we entered. The room’s walls were lined with towering bookshelves. There were a few comfortable chairs scattered around and a small sofa at the far end. I wandered around, running my fingers along the spines, squealing with excitement when I spotted rare books I’d only heard of.
So, I liked books. Jacob smiled, clearly pleased that I wasn’t dazzled by the expensive vases or the overpriced modern art pieces his sister, Savvy, had filled the house with. But my eyes lit up as soon as I saw the library. Surprisingly, it was one of his favorite rooms in the house, too.
“I could live here!” I said in awe. For a moment, I let myself believe I could be serious about that.
“You can,” he replied with a soft smile.
“I’m seriously considering it!” I joked, grinning at him. “I’d sleep on that sofa!”
I pointed at the tiny couch, and he chuckled.
“You can take any books you like from here,” he said.
“Really?” I was amazed. I had always wanted a library like this. The one back at my pack was much smaller and far less impressive.
“Of course,” he confirmed, leaning against the doorway.
He continued the tour, taking me to different rooms and eventually leading us to the kitchen, where a bit of a commotion broke out as we entered. It was the most popular spot in the pack house, where most of the residents hung out. As soon as they saw me, everyone stood up.
“It’s nice to meet you, Luna,” one of the guys said, stepping forward and extending his hand.
