I tried to peek in without getting caught. Oh my god. It was a suicide note and it had his initials right at the bottom of the sheet. He was planning to commit suicide!
Just kidding.
One can only wish.
I had no idea what the file in his hand was, and the weirdest ideas about what it could possibly be, kept entering my mind.
"Like what you see?" He asked directly looking at me, raising his eyebrow. A smirk plastered on his face.
Mister arrogant hothead, I was not staring at your face, and I do not like it at all. I've definitely seen better.
Okay so that's a lie.
Or is it?
"What's there to like about the file in your hand when I have no idea what it even is?" I asked, pouting my lip. Trying to look as innocent as possible.
That sure wiped the smirk off his oh so gorgeous face. Wait what? Gorgeous? No way. I meant ugly.
"Whatever." Dude seriously, that's all you can come up with.
"Okay let's just get down to business." I just nodded.
It's my first day. Please go easy on me! Before he could appoint me with my first task, we were interrupted by a knock on the door.
"Come in." Adrian said in a stern voice.
Some old lady served us tea, then left after asking us if there's anything else that we need.
I don't even like tea so I just stared at the cup with disinterest.
"You don't have to drink it if you don't like it." He said chuckling.
"Umm yeah, I'm not a big fan of tea." I said looking up and meeting his eyes. Stop staring! You're making me uncomfortable! I just want to get out of this room ASAP.
"So what's my first task Adrian." He seemed shocked by my question. Oh shit. Did I just say Adrian? "I meant Mr Henderson! I swear it just slipped from my mouth. I'm so sorry!" I said looking down. I could feel my cheeks burn. I'm sure I was bright red by now.
Being the idiot he was, he just chuckled. "It's fine with me. You can call me Adrian when noone's around." He said winking. Mr Henderson it is then.
"Your father called you that. And you were okay with it." I should have left the moment he handed me those files.
"By the way, you have no idea how much of a tease I can actually be." He said while winking then giving me a suggestive smile.
"Hey I have a wonderful idea. Let's follow Lucas' policy." This caused him to frown.
"Hey stop frowning. I haven't even told you what it is yet."
"And what exactly is it?" He asked, turning towards his laptop again, looking disinterested.
"His policy of keeping work and friendship seperate from each other."
He dryly chuckled. I'm sure goosebumps had formed on my skin by now. Maybe I said too much. Ladies and gentlemen, I'm about to get fired. Might I add, on the first day of my work.
"Emily don't get ahead of yourself. Just because I called you by your nickname and joked with you once or twice, doesn't mean we're friends. I'm your boss and you're my assistant. Get that fact clear. Girls and their stupid arrogance. That's why I didn't want a girl as my personal assistant." He said, mumbling the last part.
"Wow, so arrogance is limited to girls now. And that too coming from you. Double wow."
"Anyways, these are the files-" he said pointing at the files infront of me "and that's the door." He said pointing towards the door. Then he looked at his watch. "I'm giving you 3 hours."
