“You mean I almost blew up in our faces, don’t you?” she asks.

I shrug. “It wouldn’t have been like that if we hadn’t rushed or had ulterior motives. I think we should take it slow this time. Take our time, get reacquainted with these new versions of ourselves while we become reacquainted with each other’s bodies. What do you think?”

She reaches up and slides her fingers into my hair looking thoughtful.

“I think that when you and I were on the outs, I had a hole so big in my heart that it felt like I would never heal. I think that we did things my way the first time, and it didn’t work. So, if you’re telling me that we can have a second chance, a chance to build something stronger, a chance for you to build the trust that you need to have to know that I mean everything that I say and that I am the person I say I am, then I’ll take it as slowly as needed. I want to do this right, Shane. I don’t know what that will mean for us after the Academy when we both turn eighteen. But for now, being here with you, being with you, is what I want.”

“It’s what I want too,” I say, leaning in to kiss her gently.

This kiss is different than the others. It feels different like something has shifted in both of us. Rather than kissing to move into something more, the kiss lingers. We both let ourselves just enjoy the taste of the other, the feel of the other as we take our time, exploring with our lips and

our tongues.

For me, it feels like we’re laying the bricks for the foundation of our new relationship. The concrete that will hold these bricks together is the new bond that is forming between us. It feels strong, unbreakable, something that I know I can trust. Always.

My first night back in the sex class, I feel as nervous as Tiana said she felt last night. It was a great talk, and it somehow felt even more intimate because we didn’t have sex. I’m not sure why or how that is, but it’s made me feel like it’s my first time with T all over again.

When I walk into the classroom in my robe, I immediately search for Tiana. She’s fidgeting in a way that lets me know she’s still as nervous as I’m feeling.

“Well, aren’t we a pair,” I say, walking up to her and taking her hands. I notice that the curtains. between the beds have been raised giving us some semblance of privacy. However, they are still open in the front and back allowing the instructors to watch us and to intervene if necessary.
