...A CUT FROM THE PAST
Marcus, Jayda's father and Maxwell, Fred's father, were very good friends. They had been friends right from middle school till they became grown up men.
Maxwell happened to be a mafia leader which Marcus was fully aware of but still didn't want to end their friendship. Samantha pleaded with Marcus to never be friends with Maxwell and to never let their children or family have any form of relationship with him, not anything to do with him.
Samantha wasn't fully aware of anything about Maxwell because she only heard about him from Marcus.
Maxwell, being a mafia leader, was extremely rich. Marcus, on the other hand, was also very rich through his very legitimate business.
Maxwell was not a committed friend but his main priority was on attaining more wealth to himself that he sometimes involved his son, Fred, in his illegal business.
Maxwell's business was starting to drop, which was something that he didn't want to happen. Maxwell got so worried then he was going to use Marcus as his way to earn more money.
Maxwell happened to plan an illegal deal, making it directed to Marcus whose mind never crossed it that the deal was illegal.
Marcus always contributed to the so-called business as stated by the deal, which was a means to swindle him and collect money from him.
"Maxwell, I'm seriously in need of money." Marcus came to his supposed Friend one day.
"Money?" Maxwell looked confused at that then served Marcus tea. "What exactly do you need it for?"
"Well... I'm currently doing a business with a firm," he nervously scratched the back of his neck. "They need me to invest in a business and have explained a lot of things to me in which the outcome is pretty beneficial. I've been doing it for a while now but I haven't gotten any profit. I need money as well as your advice."
"Advice? In what way?" Maxwell grew more interested in it as he couldn't stop the evil grin that he was grinning internally.
"I was thinking of quitting this deal." He sighed. "It doesn't seem to make any sense and is really sucking a lot from my money."
"As your very good friend, I advise you to go on with it. You should know the end of things are usually very sweet. You might struggle but you'll eventually attain your success." He advised.
"Hm... thank you." He nodded.
"About the money, I don't have much money left with me. I have a lot of debts to settle, I hope you understand that?" He made up his best sad face.
"No problem at all, thanks." Marcus smiled.
Maxwell continued to use different strategies to gain money from Marcus as well as being threatened through different means and Marcus was also running into a lot of debts. Different problems kept on finding their way into his lives (from Maxwell and other factors).
"I'll need you to arrange a few people, if you can't do it yourself, probably pay them some dollars they might see as a large amount so they'll inject his wife to damage some organs in her body and be seriously sick, something that can't be cured easily. It'd cost him millions of dollars to heal her." He laughed evilly.
Fred managed to get the boys to do what his father said then Maxwell instructed them on what to do then it was successfully done.
Without any other option after Marcus discovered that Samantha was suddenly very sick, Maxwell persuaded him to make him his next of kin. It sounded really stupid to Marcus's hearing but they eventually had to pretend that Maxwell was his brother and made him his next of kin.
Marcus was happy because he was going to use the money for his daughter's fees and Samantha's treatment, as well as settle his debts and build up a new business.
To celebrate the victory of the business deal that Marcus had attained success in, Maxwell planned a party for him.
"Fred, you'll have to kill him." Maxwell said to his son.
"What? Are you mad?!" Fred yelled at his father.
"You should know that if you kill him, I'll have a very high amount of money which I'll give you to start a business. Also, he owes Roland a lot of money. Don't you remember that Roland is a rival to my Mafia group and how he had hurt me? So, if he doesn't give him the money he owes, he'll not have it." Maxwell convinced him.
"Dad?" Fred shook his head negatively. His spirit had run out.
