Summary of Chapter 51 – A pivotal chapter in The Next Wife by Gift Odulesi
The chapter Chapter 51 is one of the most intense moments in The Next Wife, written by Gift Odulesi. With signature elements of the Internet genre, this part of the story reveals deep conflicts, shocking revelations, and decisive character changes. A must-read for anyone following the narrative.
Jayda drove them to Dave's house, feeling quite happy to see Dave once again. She missed him. Who wouldn't miss that knucklehead?
Freya, on the other hand, became worried, remembering that Jeremy had gone extra miles just to get her Chinese food but she was no longer interested in it and neither was she where she was when he last saw her. She had tried calling his phone number but it wasn't reachable so she gave up on calling.
"Fred's going to tell him." Jayda smirked, raising her hand and balled them to knock on the hard wood of the door.
"I know. I hope he doesn't get mad." She sighed, looking down. Then, her eyes suddenly lit up and she frowned at Jayda. "There's the presence of a doorbell, you know?" She reminded her of the extremely patent fact, then she shoved Jayda and clicked on the doorbell, resulting in the reverberation of its loud ring.
Jayda giggled then she felt all tired once more. She just wanted to sit with her friends and explain everything to them because she was so stressed out from all these. It didn't seem like she was bound to have good rest. How she wished stupid Charles hadn't showed up and ruined her trip.
Thinking about Ally, she felt quite happy, sad, angry. Happy that her child had grown up so well; sad that she wasn't able to be with her to raise her well, sad that she didn't show more love to Ally than she ought to; Angry that Charles had poisoned Ally's mind so much that there was no way it was going to be easy to convince Ally that she didn't leave her all alone.
Jayda didn't tell anyone that she was seriously threatened by Charles' father to let him have Ally. She couldn't just give up and give her daughter to some man, especially not someone like Charles.
Jayda was told to always deny Ally in her presence because letting Ally know that she was her mother could cause a lot of confusion for Ally, confirming from the fact that Ally had quite a kind of mental disorder.
"Something doesn't seem right between you two. I can sense it from a Thousand miles away. How did you get into a fight with Fred? Did you not?" Freya squinted her eyes at her.
"Yeah, we got into a fight." She plainly stated then ringed the doorbell again since there was no response from the first ring.
"Why? How?" She crumpled her eyebrows. "What did you do?"
"Well..." she trailed off, scratching the back of her neck. "I didn't exactly do anything wrong. I only-" she paused then sighed.
"You only did what?" She had this tone that strict mothers spoke to their children with, to make them instantly confess all the crimes they committed but didn't want to confess for hundred days.
"Where's Dave? I doubt if he's home." Freya could tell that Jayda was trying to change the topic but she knew that her words were sounding sensible so she looked at the door.
"I don't think he is. I'll give him a call." She pulled her phone out of her hoodie pocket then she dialed his phone number.
"Hey, Dave." She spoke the moment he responded to the call. "We're at your house so where the hell are you?" If you said she barked at him, you'd have been so correct because that was loud.
"Woman, calm down." Dave laughed from the other end of the line. "I didn't know you were coming over. I thought you weren't coming anymore after I was expecting you for so long. I had to leave for something that was quite urgent."
"Jerk, come back. Now!" She yelled. Was it the hormones of pregnancy that was causing her to sound so wild? Jayda wondered. "Jayda and I are waiting in front of your stupid house but you're not here!"
"Jayda? I thought you said she went on a trip?"
"Bye," Jayda waved Freya and the annoyed Jeremy a goodbye. Jeremy was quite angry but he didn't express it too much.
"Let's get in." Fred's voice startled Jayda a bit then she nodded in affirmation of his words.
Dilatorily, they locomoted themselves into the gigantic thing they called a house.
Cora had left a few minutes ago but it didn't seem like Sadie was anything close to being ready to leave now. Jayda silently prayed that Sadie left tonight. She probably wanted to spend a little more time with her son.
"Mom's staying here for a few days, or weeks. She's staying with us." Fred felt the need to clarify that to her.
She nodded in silence then sat on the couch opposite to the one he sat on.
The doorbell rang which made them cast a glance at each other before Fred volunteered to open the door.
"Coming." He replied to the impatient person that kept ringing his doorbell incessantly. He was quicker with opening the door since the person wasn't ready to stop ringing the bell.
"Will you calm your horses..." He trailed off when he observed that the person standing by the door was none other than Charles and his step-daughter he only figured about last night.
