"Open your mouth my child." She ordered in a commanding yet soothing voice. I could have been irritated by her mannerism but surprisingly I wasn't. Instead I obeyed like a child she tagged me. She raised the grain high for everyone to see again before placing it softly on my tongue.
It melted immediately as my mouth closed without my permission. And as my muscles forced me to chew on it, I felt the pressures of eyes boring holes at me.
I felt a soothing relief course throughout my body and in oblivion, I coughed. Thrice. The racing pace my heart took gradually returned to normal. Only then was I able to glance at the awestruck crowd. At least half of them had their jaws dropped and I could see a smile birth on my Family's face, Beta Conrad, and Claire.
"The moon goddess has once again showered her mercies upon Moonsville." Beta Conrad announced with a proud smile. "For today, we would have taken an innocent life for a crime he knew not."
"Release him!" Claire ordered in a broken voice as tears streamed across her cheeks like a tiny river. Immediately I was untied, I almost collapsed to the ground but she ran towards me, making me lean over her for support.
"That's not all!" Lilith suddenly interjected causing all eyes to fall on her. "The murderer is still amongst us, and he's not going to escape today. I want every royal member including the elders to have this grain first." She explained as she walked in circles, scrutinizing each face she came across.
"And if none of you are guilty then every other member that was present at the Pack House on that unfortunate day will have it too."
"No!" Blake yelled in a fearful tone. "I refuse to be part of this nonsense magic!"
The Witch approached him.
"Why are you scared? Lycan to be." She queried in a devilish tone and he stammered while his eyes lowered to the ground.
"Let the Lycan's children have it first, Lilith." Beta Conrad ordered and her sinister smile deepened.
"And I said no!" Blake yelled again. I exchanged glances with Claire who now seemed to be more worried than happy. I intertwined my palms with hers, holding her firm to reassure her that no matter what happened, I was with her. Regardless of the pain my insides was going through.
"You talk like you're guilty, Blake." An elder commented.
"I am not!" He retorted.
"Then have the grain and prove yourself right, Lycan to be." Beta Conrad scolded. Blake gritted his teeth while his palms curled into a fist but in the end, he collected the grain. Lilith walked towards us with a smile before handing Claire a grain too.
"Now chew." She ordered to the twins. I flashed my mate an encouraging smile to at least ease her fears.
