Turning the Tide novel Chapter 23

I figured Ted was trying to get rid of me since he couldn't fire me himself. Whether or not I completed the task wouldn't make a difference. He would find a reason to create a scene regardless.

In Ted's twisted game, if things went his way, the head office would decide my fate. At worst, he would catch some heat for his poor management. But he'd be willing to take that risk if it meant he could get rid of me and send a message. It was a calculated move.

The new manager's arrival was no surprise. The previous one had just retired. But only Ted knew that the new manager was coming today.

"You're shady," I remarked.

"What did you just say?" Ted glared at me, his anger boiling.

Feeling my impending unemployment was all but guaranteed, I saw no reason to put up with Ted's nonsense any longer. I let it all out. "I said you're bold! You have so many schemes but not a single hair on your head! What? One of your schemes for a strand of hair?"

After venting my frustrations, I turned around and headed for the door, eager to waste no more time on Ted. I ripped off my badge in a huff.

Just as I reached the door, a cold voice came from the hallway. "Why ask someone to relay the message? It's better to tell me face to face."
