When I got to the apartment, I took a shower and went to bed for an afternoon siesta. I could not sleep. I was disturbed by the thought that I was either missing something or about to fall into a trap.
Going for Dorina's deal at this point could be somewhat risky. On the other hand it was because of her that I had made all this money. I was in a quandary and totally confused, not knowing what to do. I was inclined not to do the deal, mainly because the two vendors didn't "smell" right to me.
The contract with the Turkish company was about to expire and I strongly considered looking for some other property. I decided to first sell my most recently purchased apartment on Alba Julia square, the one that overlooks Boulevard Unirii, the one in which I had not had to invest any extra money for renovations.
When I was nearly asleep, the phone rang. Oana was on the line.
"Giorgio, Mio amore," she laughingly said in Italian.
We made plans to meet later in the bar that now belonged to Mihaela and Rosanna; I was anxious to see them again. Angelo had told me that the bar was going well and that he really got along well with Rosanna.
When Rosanna saw me she fell into my arms and wrapped her arms around me. I had known her since she was born, and now she was the partner of my best friend Angelo, who was old enough to be her father. "What a strange world," I thought to myself.
Oana pressed her cheek to mine and in a feline tone said, "Kiss me please." I kissed her on her cheek and she said, "Grazie amore."
"Are you taking classes in Italian?" I asked.
To my surprise, she replied, "Yes."
"Are you planning a trip to Italy?" I asked.
Once again, her reply was "Yes." This time I was not just surprised: I was shocked. She immediately saw the astonishment on my face.
My stomach was in knots when I heard that. I almost threw up the pizza that I was eating
"Don't worry; I'm not coming to meet your family. I was offered a job as a nanny at a family in Milan. The pay is excellent," was her response.
As soon as she explained the reason for her trip to Italy, my stomach calmed down and I felt better.
When our courtesy visit to the bar was over, we went to see the newly opened mall "The Arcadia." We walked around for a while and then settled down in a café which displayed delicious pastries. We indeed made the right choice. We savored the crispy millefoglie and licked the cream to the last speck. Even the coffee was genuine Italian and very professionally prepared.
"I would like for you to go to real-estate brokers and offer my apartments for sale, including the one I live in. I will give you a commission of five percent for every apartment sold. Your job will include showing the apartments to the agents and potential buyers," I said to her
"What about the rented apartments?" she asked.
"All contracts expire at the end of the year and I will send all the tenants a lawyer's letter stating that the contract will not be extended. We can even sell the apartment in which the Turks live," I told her.
"I cannot get over it how good you are to me. I really need it now. Thank you, my love," she replied.
The next morning I decided to return home that same day. I called a travel agency not far from my apartment and asked about flights to either Rome or Florence. They said they would get back to me shortly.
In the meantime, I packed my suitcase and made myself a cup of coffee. As soon as I sat down, the phone rang. Thinking it was the travel agent; I answered the phone and said, "That was quick."
It was Oana on the line.
"I have a buyer for the apartment on Alba Julia square, for one hundred and sixty thousand euros," Oana reported to me. "Will you accept that offer?"
