I stretched out my arm in the direction of Mirella. But now she was curled up in the corner of the bed with her back to me.

"Please, Giorgio," she said. "I'm not ready for more than this."

I turned around with my back to her.

"Good night," I said.

"Noapte bună," she answered in Romanian.

When I got up the next morning, Mirella was no longer in the room. I went down to the dining room, where I met Angelo and the beautiful Mihaela. He had prepared a giant omelet from more than twenty eggs. Mihaela, wearing very short shorts and a T-shirt with a plunging neckline, stood beside him stroking his back.

"Where is everyone?" I asked.

"At the lake. Everyone got up early and went swimming. Your Mirella also went."

He smiled at me and winked. Mihaela noticed the wink and smiled at me too.

"Mirella is a very nice girl, but be careful not to fall in love with her, as she has a boyfriend in Bucharest," Mihaela warned.

"I could be her father or perhaps even her grandfather," I answered.

"That is not the point," she replied, placing a kiss on Angelo's cheek.

"Actually, that is the point. I have two daughters older than her. Do you think I would fall in love with a girl her age? She is cute and sweet, but I am married with three children and I will soon be a grandfather."

Mihaela smiled at me and said, "Love knows no age or boundaries."

"It won't happen to me," I answered.

I went upstairs to my room and changed into a bathing suit.

At the lake I saw Mirella and her sister Silvia floating on the water, sitting on a tube, while Elia was having coffee on the terrace.

I approached him, as he laughingly said to me, "How do you feel my dear brother-in-law?"

"Why brother-in-law?" I asked.

"Don't you know that Mirella is Silvia's twin sister?"

"I actually did know. How was your night?"

"That little horny Silvia fucks like a bunny. I am not eighteen years old anymore."

"Same with her sister." I lied to him in order not to provoke any further questions.

I ordered a cup of coffee. The owner handed me a large glass of brown liquid along with a glass of water. The coffee tasted like sewage. The first taste was also the last. I spat the contents out of my mouth and immediately drank the water.

We sat around a low table alongside the lake with our bare feet stuck in the rough sand. Gert came over and sat down next to us. "Who has a cigarette?" he asked.

Claudio lit one for himself and handed Gert the box. Gert took out a cigarette, lit it and sat back on the plastic chair. "I have something to say." That was Gert's way of showing displeasure with something.

"Gert, I know what you have to say and I totally agree with you for being upset," commented Claudio.

"It is a selfish act that one does not do to a friend," Gert said

"Idiots remain idiots," I responded. "It is obvious that the years in Australia have not made him any smarter. So what do you want to do?"

"This time, nothing, but next time I will not come if he comes."

"I'm with you. I will talk to everyone and tell them not to invite him anymore."

Suddenly from nowhere the two Gypsies popped up and sat down next to us.

"Anybody going to order a drink for us?" one of them asked.

"Sure. Whatever you like, beer, soda, milk ..." I laughed.

She motioned to the bartender to bring two Effes, and he immediately brought her two bottles of local beer.
