The second Angela and Jimmy strode into the kitchen, Grace began walking towards the family room. "You should take Daniel to Steven's. I'm sure sleeping on his bed is more comfortable than my sofa. He got to rest well for his big day tomorrow."
Agreeing with the woman, everyone followed her to where Daniel slept on the sofa.
"Don't wake him." Steven whispered as he held Angela back from reaching to Daniel and wake him up. Instead, Steven slid his hands underneath the sleeping form of Daniel and lifted him into his arms.
"Wait." Jimmy said before he hurried out of the room and returned with a colorful duvet. "It's chilly outside." And he tucked the duvet around the sleeping boy in Steven's arms.
"Thank you for diner, Grace." Steven muttered in a low voice not to wake the boy.
The woman only nodded with a pleased smile. Then she turned to Angela and pulled her in for a hug. "We'll see you tomorrow."
When Angela pulled back, she touched the ring on her right hand. Tony's ring. "I guess I should return this to you."
Grace set a hand on hers. "Keep it my dear. Tony would have want that. I say he would insist."
Both women looked over at Steven who was watching their exchange intently. Then a smile formed on his lips. His approval of keeping Tony's ring.
Grace clutched Angela's hand. Touched her other hand to her face with a motherly gaze. "You'll always be our Angel. Don't ever forget that."
"I won't. Ever." Angela pecked Grace's cheek lovingly. That was the woman who treated her like her own daughter.
With one arm holding Daniel steady, Steven picked up the suit jacket he had discarded earlier and offered it to Angela. "Put it on. It's chilly outside."
Instinctively, Angela's lips twitched upwards at the thought of Steven being concerned for her. She took his jacket and did as he suggested.
"Good night." Steven saluted at Grace and Jimmy.
"We'll see you all tomorrow." Grace waved back as she watched Steven escorting Angela out with his free hand resting possessively on her back.
All the ride back home, Steven couldn't help but steal glances at the rearview mirror while he drove. He watched Angela in the backseat who never flickered her gaze from the sleeping boy on her lap.
Steven couldn't help but think about what Grace had said to him earlier. About him and his wedding ring. Could it be true? Was that why he kept wearing the ring, to remember of Angela? Was it possible that he had feelings that never faded for his ex-wife?
Did he still love Angela?
"I'll tell you what. You come with me when I go buy this stuff."
"Great." Daniel grinned.
"I'll see you later okay buddy." Steven kissed Daniel's forehead and made to the door.
The boy threw the blanket off him and stood up in bed, fully awake. "Thank you Steven."
Daniel's words halted Steven in his tracks. He swivelled back to face the boy and when he saw the honest gratitude and wide smile the boy had, he couldn't not return to Daniel and engulf him in a hug.
A tear ran fast down Angela face. Her son's father might help her son get better, yet her son didn't know.
Steven pulled back from the boy but held him close to him, looked at him deeply.
Oh dear. Angela covered her mouth to not let her sob escape. He was going to tell him. She knew it. Her breath caught in her throat.
Steven opened his mouth to speak but all that came out was a raspy breath. Then his hand fell from the boy's arms. He ruffled Daniel's already messy hair playfully and walked away.
