"Angela." Steven called her in a low voice.
Still she didn't look up.
He moved himself away from the wall, went to sit on the bed close to her. "Look at me, Angela."
As always, his low voice was like a hypnotizing command. She looked at him and his eyes locked hers from moving in an instant.
"Are we not going to talk about what happened?"
Angela shook her head barely noticeable. "I'd rather not right now."
"Why not?"
"Because... Because right now, I have so many things going on in my mind."
"Do you want to share any of them with me?" He offered. He sincerely wanted to know what she was thinking.
Angela sat back in the chair. Her nervous leg stopped quivering but her face changed into a frown. "Why didn't you tell me you signed the merger?"
Steven stilled. He thought, he hoped her father hadn't told her about that during their short phone conversation.
He shrugged lightly. "I didn't think it was that important."
"It is important Steve." The merger deal was the one thing that was binding her to stay with Steven other than Daniel. She needed to know. And now the prospect of meeting her father seemed even more frightening.
Steven crouched before her. His both hands set tenderly on her thighs. "Merger or not, I still want you here with me."
There it was. The words she feared to hear. He was going to impose her to stay. "Steve, last night, it was-"
"Incredible."
Yes it was. But that wasn't what Angela was going to say.
"Steve..."
"Angela, we, um...," Steven paused. "Last night, we haven't used protection... again."
Neither the other time they'd been together nor this once had Angela thought about that. It seemed her brain was always focused on other thoughts afterwards.
It was then that she thought about it. Oh, dear. What if something, or rather someone, resulted from their sex? She couldn't think about this too. Her mind was already full.
Daniel stood away from his mother and hurried into bed with a grin.
Angela looked at Dr. Gibbs with mouth open. "That is the first time he ran that quickly into bed."
"Oh, I don't believe you. Daniel is good boy." The friendly doctor lowered to Daniel and whispered to him. "She's lying, isn't she?"
Daniel bit on his finger, peaked at Angela, thinking twice before responding. Then he shook his head sincerely.
"See, I told you he's a good boy. He doesn't even lie." Dr. Gibbs winked at the boy while he offered Daniel his fist to bump with.
"Dr. Gibbs, is he really getting stronger?" Angela interrupted the doctor and her son's playful moment.
"Compared to yesterday, yes he is. There's still a lot more of recovery to happen though." Dr. Gibbs peered at Daniel with a warning side-glance. "That why he needs to rest in bed."
"I am in bed." Daniel slid further in bed to lay down.
"Can we take him with us today?" Angela questioned.
"I don't recommend that yet, no. Just a few more days." The doctor then explained further the test result of that morning and the ones they took yesterday. According to the little Angela could understand, Daniel's health had made slow steps for the better. And if his health was to get stronger at that phase, it would be more than a few days until he's ready to go home with them.
