Waking up to an empty bed after a night shared with Angel was unusual. She was and still is not a morning person. Probably never will. Today was different though, Angel was not in bed. I tiredly wandered into the bathroom hoping she was there, but she wasn't.
Leaving the room in search of her, I had time to recall all of yesterday's events. Mostly it's night. Its was indeed eventful.
I need to talk to Angel about what happened between us. I don't even know what I would say to her... Do I tell her it was a mistake under the influence alcohol? That I regret it? Or should I just hold the bull by its horns and confess how I truly feel?
What would be her reaction? What does this mean for us?
Last night, I was ruled by my treacherous heart. But this morning, I am left to face the aftermath alone.
While still in search of Angel, I decided to give my sister call to ask about mum. She picked on the third ring.
"Jack?"
"Emmy, how are you? How is mum? Is she awake? Is she in pain? Is dad back yet?" I asked all at once.
"Hey, hey, calm down now would you? One question at a time please" she said.
"Oh.. Sorry" I muttered.
"Mum is awake and it's like nothing ever happened. She is as active as ever."
"Dad just landed at the airport"
"No, she is not in pain, but she wishes to see you though. Told her you have to take Angel to the airport this morning" she informed me.
"It's okay, I'm sure we could make a quick stop before heading over to the airport." I assured her.
"That would be lovely Jack, uhm..Jack?" Emily called with a worried tone.
"How is Angel handling it" she inquired.
"She is a strong woman, she is doing just fine. As fine as she can be I guess..." I told her
" oh...that's good..how about you?" She asked again
"Me?" I responded.
"Yes you. Did you sleep well?" She questioned acting like a mother hen.
Sighing, I shook my head, if only she knew
"I tried" I replied with a stained voice.
"I'll call you back, the doctor just called for me." She notified.
"Thanks so much Emmy. Call me if you notice anything at all okay? "
"Sure bro, love you" she said
"Love you too sis" I replied.
On hanging up, I realised I was in front of Angel's room. Knocking before entering, I find Angel all packed and ready to go.
I looked at her closely, what happened suddenly?
"Angel, if it's about last night I-" i began
"Stop! Just stop! I told you I'm fine. Whatever happened last night was a mistake."
"We were both in need of comfort, blinded by pain and grief, and let's not forget how much alcohol we consumed before that."
" I may be plagued with its nightmare for a long time, but I'll be fine. You don't have to apologize" she said calmly. Way too calm.
"Angel you know it's not as you have put-"
"Dad! Just leave my room please. I cant stand looking at you. I feel disgusted and ashamed."
"Angel, you shouldn't f-"
Please!, if you respect me a little, you'll do this one thing. She told me.
My heart constricted. I didn't know what I had expected after last night but it definitely wasn't this...How could she call it a mistake?
" Mum's regained consciousness. We should see her before we go." I said in a cold tone as I reached for the door.
"Sure" was all I heard before slamming the door shut with unnecessary force.
I guess 'living for the now' isn't the best choice I've made yet.
