"We're really sorry, Damian," Paul and Devon say in unison as they pat my back.
"Just forget about me, I was a like a total dumbass who thought everything would go okay and was oblivious to everything else falling around me. I knew Amber was upset but I thought she was happy again, she looked happy for the past week."
"You're not a dumbass, Damian. I thought she was happy too," Devon agrees. "It was probably just the thought of another baby that put her off the idea of motherhood. She'll come around, I know she will, she won't give up her own babies."
"What if she really does give them up," I moan.
"She won't do that, I've known her for 13 years and know for a fact she loves kids. We've all known her our entire lives and we know she wants kids, she's amazing with them. Yes, she may feel it's too early to be having a baby, especially two but she'll change her mind," Paul assures me.
"You're right, hopefully. Thanks guys," I say, giving them a weak smile.
"Come on, it's eleven o clock, you've been hunting for more than three hours, I think it's time you came back to home to Amber," Devon suggests.
"If she'll have me back," I mumble.
"She will," Paul says, giving me a sympathetic smile. We have a group man hug and they pat my back.
"No matter what happens, Damian, you always have us and everyone else, if you need to talk we're here," Paul says. I smile my thanks and we go back to the house. Nearly all the pack members were gathered in our large living room, the only ones who weren't were Amber, her mother, us and the pack children.
"Damian, where the fuck have you been!?" my mother shouts from the living room, flitting over to me. She tackles me with a hug and I hug back. I needed another shoulder to cry on. "You've been gone hours, four to be exact."
"I needed time to calm down and think," I say.
"Oh, Damian, are you okay? I know this must be hard on you."
"Not good, I tried everything to change her mind but she's still sticking to her intentions," Amber's Mom says. No, no, no, I hope I can change her mind, if her own mother can't get her to change it, how will I? I'm her mate, I'm sure I can. If she really loves me, she'll listen.
"What! But she can't!" my Mom argues.
"She's finally gotten off to sleep, she's been crying her eyes out for ages," Amber's Mom says. Aw Amber, she's crying because of me, I've been horrible.
"Dammit, I wanted to talk, looks like I'll have to wait till tomorrow," I sigh. I have to wait till after school tomorrow to talk, that's like 18 hours! I can't wait that long but I also can't wake her up. "Okay, well I'm going to bed, today's been hectic."
"Goodnight sweetie, please don't worry, if anyone can get her to change her mind it's you," Amber's mother smiles. I sure hope I can. I say goodnight to everyone, no one knows what's going on but they know something is up between Amber and me. We'll have to tell them soon, I really want to tell Ellen, maybe I can get her to help me change her mind since they're best friends. I go upstairs to a spare bedroom, I can't sleep beside Amber.
She'll get a fright tomorrow not seeing me beside her but I'm still a bit pissed at her even though I know it's not her fault. Things will get better tomorrow, a new day, a new start. I flop onto the bed and take off my clothes. I stare at the ceiling and think about Amber. I wish I could sleep beside her, I just want to feel those tingles again. I miss her, so much. Will she forgive me for staying that and storming off?
