“Are you sure you’re going home this morning?” Grace asked with a sad expression. She still wanted Eli to stay longer. Unfortunately, the girl had decided to return to her dorm this morning.
“Yes.” Eli smiled faintly. “I have an assignment to work on.” She deliberately left earlier because she still had a class to attend this afternoon.
Althea intervened. “Eli will come back again next week. Right?”
Eli did not know what to say, especially when Naomi added.
“You have to go home, Eli. Remember, we’re having dinner together.”
When things were like this, Eli could not bring herself to give any other reason except, “All right.”
Grace clapped happily. Her face no longer looked sad. Unlike Josh, who had been enjoying his breakfast all this time. The young man did not say anything about Eli returning to her campus dorm.
“Oh, Josh’s match is three weeks from now, right?” asked Chris, who had just appeared in the dining room. “I have to adjust my schedule before watching him play.”
Josh clicked his tongue. “You don’t have to come, Uncle Chris.”
Chris frowned. “Why?” He then pulled out the chair beside Naomi. He made sure his wife had eaten breakfast and apologized for being late to the dining room. There had been a few matters that needed to be handled right away.
Naomi no longer complained about the amount of time Chris had because her husband was just as busy as Cale or Daven.
“Just come for the finals,” Josh said casually. He took a sip of his orange juice and then said again, “Mom, I’ve finished my breakfast.”
He immediately approached Althea and briefly kissed her cheek. “Thank you. Your breakfast is always delicious.”
“You’re leaving now?” Althea blinked in disbelief because Josh seemed to be in such a hurry to leave for campus.
“Yes.” Josh picked up his bag.
“With Eli?”
“No need,” Eli interrupted. “I’m going home with Mr. Hans.”
“He’s the one who doesn’t want to be with me.” Josh shrugged.
Naomi slapped her forehead and let out a long sigh. “Eli, you should go with Josh. And you, Josh. Take Eli all the way to her dorm and make sure no one bothers her.”
Naomi’s way of speaking actually sounded just like Althea. It made Althea and Daven look at each other. Neither of them understood what was going on between Josh and Eli.
“Quickly!” Naomi ordered, and Josh finally obeyed.
“All right.” Josh looked at Eli. “Come on.” He held out his hand, offering to carry Eli’s bag for her.
Eli could only resign herself to it, say goodbye, and promise that she would come home again in two weeks.
The journey to the dorm was quite peaceful. Eli sat in the passenger seat while looking at the scenery outside the window. Occasionally, she checked her phone, but she did not actually read anything.
Her mind was still occupied with the many things that had happened over the past few days. About David, Natalie, what had happened at the party, and also about Josh casually admitting that he was her boyfriend in front of the Raven players.
Meanwhile, beside her, Josh drove calmly without asking many questions. He seemed to deliberately give Eli time to enjoy the journey without having to talk about something she did not want to discuss yet.
Several minutes passed in silence until Josh finally glanced at her briefly. “You still don’t want to forgive me?”
Eli turned to him. “Was I angry?”
