Love is Gone novel Chapter 8

I spotted Lily before I even exited the station. She was a vision in a light blue dress, elegant and composed, her eyes searching the crowd.

“Jason!” she called out, rushing towards me and throwing her arms around me. “Next time you go back home, take me with you. I'll handle your mom. Nobody messes with my man!”

She looked up at me, and for a split second, the concern in her eyes seemed genuine. Maybe, just maybe, I could let it all go. We had history, a shared past of struggle and triumph. Despite her betrayal, she didn’t want to lose me. She wouldn’t sleep with me, but we could try IVF, build a family. Maybe having a baby would make her settle down, dump Oliver for good, and become the wife I thought she was.

On the way to the restaurant, Lily’s phone rang.

Her face tightened. “What’s up?” I asked.

She hesitated. “Work… You know what? Forget it. We’re supposed to be having our date. I’ll tell them to figure it out without me.”

I knew exactly what was happening.

“It’s okay, babe. Work comes first. I’m not really hungry anyway. We can go another time,” I said, my voice flat.

“But…”

“No buts. Just drop me off at the next block.”

“Okay. Call if you need anything.”

Later, I checked Oliver’s Instagram. A new post: him and Lily making a heart shape with their hands. My gaze went straight to her ring finger. She'd forgotten to take it off. Oliver would use that as an excuse to “punish” her later.

Anger surged through me.

I swiped to the next photo. Dim lighting, rose petals scattered on a round bed. The location tag: a love hotel.

I grabbed my phone, dialing 911.

“I want to report prostitution.”
