"She's gonna die if I don't do anything," I whispered viciously.
"Just watch."
As he said that, a man seem to have appeared out of nowhere, his weapon pointed to the lion-wolf. A shot rang seconds later and the animal fell to the ground, wounded.
"Are you alright?" the man knelt down in front if her, wiping her tears. I felt some relief here, seeing that the little girl wasn't mauled to death.
"Yes," she nodded. "I am now." her voice shook, but in an instant, her face changed. As soon as the man looked away to put back the gun in its carrier, I recognized her eyes before she slit his throat so effortlessly.
"Such an easy kill." she clicked her tongue. "Sire would be pleased with my swiftness with this one. Come, Lye," she commanded the lion-wolf, and it rose as if nothing happened. As if I sustained no injuries. "We actually might have time for a little fun on the way back." She laughed, twirling the blade skillfully between her small fingers. Her pigtails bounced behind her as she raced the lion-wolf down the woodsy path.
It was now that I realized what actually just happened. It was all a trick. She lowered the man there to execute him. She was in no real danger. She must have known he would've come somehow; but why was he such a prize?
"We can't let her get too far, though." Troy frowned. "She's a flight risk to humans."
"What do you mean?" I said incredibly. Troy just rose and made after her, while I stood there, inwardly panicking, next to Alaric. "What does he mean?" I demanded now.
"He has to take her out. Don't let her appearance fool you. Young assassins are common in Tylon. They're just as heartless as the rest."
I paused. "We can't let him go by himself. Look how fast she killed that guy."
"Killing her is the easy part. Finding the open land-bridge she came here through is harder. Most stray Tylonals enter your world through land-bridges left open by dead bridgers. But they're so subtle you can't even see them. As long as we find the split in the dimensions in time, we can block it before it becomes a free-for-all. I'm pretty sure she's not the only one who knows about it."
"But how can we do that if they're so hard to find?"
"We're always finding Tylonals around this area so it must be close. That's why I knew to come here." He pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket and began unfolding it. "This is a map of the area. Troy and I've managed to mark up all the sightings until we find the one spot none of them touched. "
"Why? Wouldn't you look at where you found them?"
"If there was anything I knew, it was that Tylonals grow anxious if they stay in once place too long, especially if under suspicious circumstances. They know they'll be followed to where they came from so they avoid the bridge at all cost."
"What's going on...?" I whispered to Alaric.
"I think the only danger he's in is being licked to death," he said matter-of-factly. "Troy," Alaric rolled his eyes. "you were supposed to take care of it, not play with it."
"It's not my fault he likes me! Isn't that right Barack?" Troy ruffled his fur. "Who's a good boy! Who's a good boy!" He cooed.
"Barack?"
"Cool name huh?" He beamed. He pushed the animal away to look at Alaric and I, and it sat obediently next to him. "I didn't like the one he had before. It was too, girly."
"Why should that matter to you? We're not keeping it."
"Why not? It's harmless. Look," he pulled up Barack's jaws. "His tusks are gone."
"That's because it's a Rye. This breed of lion-wolves are known for that. Their tusks only appear in combat, and since it's previous owner, no longer lives, it reverted to its dormant state. I didn't realize before for because it was unusually small for it's kind. But honestly, I thought you'd know all of this. You are 687 after all. Then again, they are a new breed and since you neglect Tylon for so long, you don't know anything about them."
