"I don't know." I shrugged. "Fifteen minutes maybe."
"No. About an hour. And you know what you said the entire time?"
I paused. "Stay with us."
"But the way you said it... it was in a different language."
"What did I say?"
"Stanna med oss."
Stanna med oss
Stanna med oss
Stanna med oss
The words kept bouncing through my mind as if I should know what they were for. I tried to picture where I've heard them before, but all I kept seeing was pale waves brushing against the delicate white sand. The sky was hidden by a giant gray blanket, but I knew it wasn't going to rain soon. The cool wind swirled my hair around as I laughed gayly down the shoreline.
"And there's something else," he said. "You kept crawling at your back and we thought you probably hit it when you fell out of my arms."
My eyes widened. "You dropped me!"
"Not intentionally." He shook his head. "You were thrashing a lot- But that's beside the point. We don't need a map to get us into Tylon, you are the map."
"How?" I breathed out. He offered me his hand and I took it. I tried to pull the sheet with me but he grabbed my other hand and pulled me to him.
"And you're right," he smirked. "It's nothing I haven't seen before." I tried not to roll my eyes as he led me into the bathroom. I should have kneed him in the balls for that one.
He looked down at me. "Brace yourself." He directed my back towards the mirror and nudged me to take a look. Reluctantly, my neck crane behind me, only to have my eyes snap to the mirror for a better image. There were markings, patterns, and words all over my back. They were all connected by two lines that intersected at the base of my neck. I traced them to the back of ears, the insignia of Tylon now prominent on both.
Like a dagger the feeling pierced my skin, tracing from behind ears down to the small of my back...
"How did this happen?" I said, trailing my finger over the markings.
I screamed.
They ran in.
I ran out.
I locked the door.
I hunted for Sage.
It wasn't as if I expected to walk into his office and have all my demands met, but he could have been considerate about it. I just wanted to go to the back porch, at least get some from of fresh air if I'm going to be barricaded in here for a while. Liam wasn't coming back until the day after tomorrow because there had been some complications with the Alpha down in Maryland.
How convenient.
I turned the knob to the back door and embraced the chill of the air. It was the middle of March so it wasn't too bad, but I was only wearing a tank top and sweat bottoms. The worst feeling in the world took me over as I felt the wet grass soaking my white socks. I was only doing this to get back at Sage because he told me I couldn't leave the house. Right now, I probably have less than 5 seconds before he burst through the door and hauled me back inside, so until then, I'm making distance.
