"They dropped the investigation." I furrowed my eyebrows as I sat at the table with Trevor.

"What?"

"Dain's investigation... they drooped it." I place down the phone, staring at Trevor who unlike his tone, doesn't seem to care that much.

"And?"

"What do you mean and? He's a human being-"

"Don't tell me you're standing up for your abuser-"

"I'm standing up for a human." I raise an eyebrow silencing him. "Abuser or not, he was brutally murdered, he caused me pain in so many ways but I don't think he deserved to die that way."

"Do you hear yourself?" Trevor scoffs.

"You may not have a heart, you know, former mafia king and all, but I'm not you. I wanted to become a therapist for a reason, and it's to talk people out of mentalities like yours." His eyes widen before they turn an even darker shade of black if that's possible. He drops his fork abruptly before standing.

"Be ready at four, we're going out."

"I'm not going anywhere."

"We went over this the last time Ocean, do you want me to go through your drawers again?" He doesn't allow me to answer as he leaves and I stare, my mouth wide open and the closed door.

He didn't even tell me where we were going.

It was around two and I was busy redoing some exercise in my textbook when the doorbell rang. I stand, peeking through the door only to find the police.

I open it up to two men, one with brown eyes and the other with blue. They were both white, towering over me with muscles like steel, and that's what scared me.

"Are you looking for Trevor? He's not here."

"I'm afraid not ma'am are you Ocean Devila?"

"Yes..." I murmur and brown eye's face hardens.

"I'm Officer Hartford and this is Officer Greene." Blue eyes state and I nod.

"What is this about?"

"It's about your deceased boyfriend, Dain White? May we come in?"

"I think I rather step out." I murmur, ready to place a foot outside when Officer Greene steps in front of me, his scowl ever so present.

"Is there a problem officer?" I mutter, expressing internal disappointment to my voice for shaking and Hartford smirks.

"I would just go down to the station and sort it out-"

"They were going to rape you!" He exclaims suddenly and I immediately close my mouth. "These men are known for that, and the only reason they weren't sent to jail is because they hold a lot of power in this state."

"Oh... I... thank you." I breathe out, my throat clogging up. I was so close to being raped.

Oh shut up. You're acting like this would've been the first time.

I ended up breaking down in front of Trevor and he wastes no time coming to comfort me.

"Hey... I would never let anything happen to you. ." I allow his embrace.

"But what if you didn't make it on time I would've -"

'Don't say it... nothing will happen to you Ocean, I promise you that."

In in his words, I sought comfort,

In his touch, I sought safety

But in my mind, I sought after my drifting sanity.
