Ocean's POV

Things with Trevor has been different. I've started school again, my professor treating me with the utmost respect for the first time.

A week has passed and we've fallen into a routine. He drives me to school, and picks me up, we go to lunch and he drops me home before heading back to work. He comes in at dinner time and we eat together just talking about ourselves and common interests.

Today, Trevor texted me that he couldn't make it, and I didn't really mind walking.

It came to mind that if Dain and I were still together, he'd somehow convince me to move in with him since his house was closer. I passed by it warily, the for sale sign still upfront.

I found myself walking towards the house, I bite my lip, pushing away any nagging thoughts. I grab the spare key that was thankfully still hidden under the dirt in the floor bed and unlock the door, stepping in

Why am I here?

I don't really know.

It seemed so different now... Empty and almost... Homey as if nothing bad ever happens here. I walk towards the rooms, they were just as empty as the rest. My footsteps echoed around the hollow house and my legs brought me to what used to be a study room.

The piece of furniture with the odd scrapes was still there. I looked at it before studying it more closely...

Dain was a neat freak, a perfectionist even, he wouldn't leave furniture like this in his house for even a day. Then my thoughts drifted to the watch that didn't belong to him.

No, I have to find his killer. I don't owe anything to him, but it's just the right thing to do.

Without google would we even be as developed as we are right now?

The best of the best private investigators were just staring back at me... It was nerve-wracking what I was about to do. He was pricey, but with Trevor paying the full rent, I've been able to save some money.

I sent the email and set up a date to meet the investigator who would help me find Dain's murderer.

Shutting the laptop, it was a little after five, so I got started on dinner, and by getting started I mean dialing Olive Garden.

Placing two orders for delivery, I pulled out my homework and got started. My mind drifted to Trevor and the question I asked him.

"Did you kill Dain?' I ask and I immediately feel bad because his eyebrows go skyrocketing.

"Why would you think that?" He questions looking me straight in my eyes and I sigh.

"I'm sorry it's just that, you're being suspicious and I found a piece of paper under the rug-'

"With Dain's address." He concludes and I nod. "I didn't kill Dain," He assures.

"I may have gone over there to rough him up but I assure you. I didn't kill him. ."

He did seem sincere enough, but why didn't I exactly believe him?

I ate a lot of food on my last night, the sound of the TV being my only comfort. He never came back down, and he left extremely early for work.

I let it slide, plugging in my headphones and dancing lazily as I mopped and scrubbed.

Only in a pair of yoga pants and a plain white t-shirt with a sports bra underneath, I was at utmost comfort as I glided around.

My mop hit the edge of the door, the forbidden one. I eyed it anxiously.

What could he be hiding?

My gaze landed on the handle. Should I go in?

My mind screamed at me, to respect his privacy by the majority of me just said go in.

With a final thought, I grabbed the handle and twisted it.

Locked.

I pout, stepping away only to wallow in my shame and weakness.

Oh well, perhaps another day then, just not today.
