“I’ll be back,” I whispered, winking at the other men. They either nodded or smirked in response.

I wasn’t seriously considering them, of course. Though I knew some of them were serious about me. Alpha Maddox, Maximus’s old rival, had expressed more than once his desire to take me as his Luna. Alpha Grayson had shown signs of admiration before. I usually pretended not to notice, but I was fully aware of how they looked at me. Females with pure Alpha blood were rare. My wolf had an immaculate silver coat, which was also unique. On top of that, I was beautiful and smart—the Perfect Luna everyone wanted. Maximus was lucky to have me.

Shame none of that mattered when he met his mate. Even though we wore each other’s marks and shared a bond, it didn’t help.

“You shouldn’t give them hope, you know,” Will suddenly spoke up. I gave him a surprised look.

“You read too much into everything.” I looked away because his gaze felt like it was burning through my skull. “I’m just having fun.”

“You are the Luna….”

“And my Alpha is right over there, having the time of his life with his mate, Will.” I rolled my eyes. “What do you want me to do? Hide in the corner and cry? He made his choice, and—

“And you’re already looking for a new Alpha?” His grip on me tightened. “Is this really necessary?”

“And you think it isn’t?” I asked, intrigued.

“Of course not!” His voice was firm. “Maximus will never divorce you. This girl is just for his wolf. You can find someone like that too. In our pack.”

“Or I can go and look for my mate!” I snorted and ignored his frown. “But I’m not into that, Will. That’s not me.”

He clenched his lips, but luckily, the music ended, and I left him, slipping into the crowd.

“Did you see? How shameless of her!” a girl’s voice drifted over from the distance. “No wonder her husband didn’t reject his mate even though he marked her! Maybe there’s more to this story, considering how she flirts with every Alpha she sees!”

I glanced over at the girl. Just some bimbo one of the Alphas had brought. Not even a Luna.

But I knew rumors would spread. And not everyone would be on my side, even though I had no choice in the matter.

Oh, well.

I deliberately left Will on the opposite side of the hall from where all the single Alphas were waiting for me. Of course, I would work on them too, but they weren’t entirely reliable. If they wanted more than just an alliance, they would be disappointed. I wasn’t interested in remarrying. At least, not now. All I wanted was to get my pack back. And for that, I needed help

“Well,” he chuckled, “I’m here for the first time, so… Anyway, My King is here too, and he wishes to see you.”

“I’ll make sure to deliver Luna Grimm as soon as our dance is over,” Alpha Henry said, trying to lead me away. But the Lycan stopped him

“I’m afraid you’ll have to find another dance partner.” He smiled, but his tone was menacing enough that Henry stepped aside, allowing us to leave.

The lycan led me to the balcony, while pretty much everyone in the room, including my husband, watched as they opened the white curtain for me, motioning for me to enter.

Another loud growl echoed as soon as I walked in.

Jacob was enraged.

He avoided werewolf events for a reason—they were always so exhausting. The weaker wolves clung to him like leeches, trying to push their daughters and sisters on him. He despised it.

Yet here he was, sitting on a private balcony, watching everyone arrive for the Alpha Ball through a small opening between two curtains. He had specifically requested this spot to maintain some privacy during the event. He hated drawing attention and wanted to be done with the party quickly so he could return home, where piles of work awaited him. Something was happening at the border of his kingdom, and he needed to analyze the reports and come up with a solution.
